The Tie Bar Pocket Squares--too small?

Hi all,

I've been looking to invest in some pocket squares, and the ones on The Tie Bar seem to be a good value.

My main concern about them is the size--they're listed at 10.5"x10.5" (they also have squares listed at 16"x16", but that seems too big).  The smallest squares I've seen elsewhere are generally 12 inches, so I'm worried that the 10.5 inch Tie Bar pocket squares may be too small.

To anyone that has experience with either of these sizes: Thoughts?  Is the 10.5" size too small for more complex folds?  Does the 16" size tend to create a noticeable bulge in the pocket?

Any help would be appreciated!

Thanks,

Mark

I have several 16" x 16" squares. I don't find them to be too big, nor do they cause my pocket to bulge.

I would add that The Tie Bar squares are not limited to 10.5" and 16". They do offer the 12" x 12" size, which you seem to prefer. (Along with 11.5" x 11.5", which it's fair to include with the 12" ones.)

I would imagine the right pocket square size might have to do with the size of the wearer, the size of his jacket pocket, the material from which the square is made, how the square is folded (or not folded), etc.

Thanks for the reply!

I do see that some of the squares on The Tie Bar are offered in 12 and 11.5, but it seems like most of the patterned silk are only offered in 10.5 and 16.

Anyone have thoughts on 10.5?

Way too small. Most of my Drake's squares are 42cm (16.5 in). Pass on those little squares.

Thanks for the help!  I think I'll just go ahead and go for the 16" squares.

I picked up a couple of those small squares, as well as some of their larger ones, since they were inexpensive and I liked the pattern.

Of the ones I received, the smaller ones were made of much thicker and stiffer material then the larger. I have not found it difficult to have them stay put and look respectable. You just need to be prepared to work with them differently.

I picked up a white silk one because I was ordering a tie and, hey, they're cheap. You get what you pay for. I haven't been able to use it because its too small and flimsy; just disappears into my pocket.

I have both and yes the larger ones are better to use but depending on the fold you use the small ones will stay up for 2-3 hours at a time. Wearing one of the 12" ones today and it is staying in fine.
