Waterproofing spray for boots?

What are your guys' thoughts on using waterproofing boot protector on leather dress boots during winter months? Will they damage the leather? If so, then what care strategies should one take to protect leather dress boots in the winter, particularly when there is salt on the ground?

Cleaning it with damp cloth and then applying wax is usually good enough. The water should be a minor problem, the salt is the real problem.

I think most waterproofing sprays contain silicone.  I avoid them in favor of simple wax polish.

Saphir Invulner is your best bet.

A bunch of the affiliates (including myself) stock it. Pain is the ass to ship though!

It depends on the leather. My new backpacking boots say to use fluoropolymer spray, and NOT wax or oil. So far so good. The sprays are relatively new, as far as I know, so I have not found much information about them.
