Nice last, but not really chiseled to any significant degree.

Chisel Toe: G&G TG73 C&J 348 Vass U EG 888 Round Toe: JL 1105 . C&J 350 . EG 82 Lobb's 1105 is da bomb as far as round toe lasts go. The recent JL models Aintree and Ascot are just beautifully shaped shoes.

Good call Sysdoc!

Langton is quite nice, too.

On the bespoke side, Jason Amesbury does a wonderful chisel toe.

Incidentally, why don't any of you fancy the Vass F last as much as you do the U last? Is it less sleek compared to the Lobb and EG competition?

today, making it Aintree No. 3 in my collection. You've got a few Aintrees and Ascots too, don't ya?

Oh, and let's not forget JL 2006, which is also on the 1105. Got that in several colors as well. I agree with a few here that 'red lord' is beautiful indeed!

I love the U-last and besides my light colored 1105-last JLs it's the other last that I get tons of compliments for from ladies as well as guys. Vass' F-last however does not do it for me at all. I find it rather plump.

Thumbs-up!!

I have Aintree in Cashew, Ascot in chocolate and 2006 in Cashew and Grey.

Man, what a clash of titans we have here. Better get out of the way!

Sysdoc, would your opinion regarding the F last also hold for their Budapest-Oxford styles? (Probably.) I don't know, I seem to be preferring round toes for full brogues, and chisel toes for plain toes

Why don't we just call these lasts what they are? They are not round and chisel, rather they are round and square. I prefer square to round and of the ones mentioned like the U-last the most.

I thought I liked the F-last, but I really don't. it isn't so much bad as it is boring.

I can only state my personal taste which is actually almost the other way around from yours. I find wingtips best on chisel toe lasts and cap toe shoes best on round toe lasts. Plain toe shoes go with either IMO. A Vass full brogue ('Oxford Budaspest' IIRC) on the U-last looks brilliant. If only Vass had leather colors like JL's Cashew ...

I know that most of the others will disagree, but once you own a certain amount of shoes, you get tired of the drab colors. Got the Aintree in Cashew, Burnt Orange (shocking!), and chocolate, the 2006 in Cashew and Red Lord, the Ascot in Cashew and chocolata ya ya. No catching up required, unless you are still in the one hundreds

You know, in my size, I think I prefer the 202 (marginally) to the 82. I do intend to post some pics one of these days.

Actually, this is also what Manton keeps rightfully pointing out. Elongating lasts are only nice up to a certain shoe size. Once beyond that, they make an already large foot look humongous. So I can understand well that some prefer EG 202, JL 8695, Vass F-last, or C&J 330. Those are probably the best round toe last for fellows who don't want their feet to look even larger or longer than they actually are. For those with a shoe size of less than let's say 10 UK G&G's TG73, Vass U-last , C&J's 348/350 and JLs 1105 are very sexy, slightly trendy yet classy lasts that will attract a lot of complements, especially should you be confident enough to wear colors that draw attention to your shoes. Polishing the shoes to a stunning shine can do the same even in case of dark colors. Here in Asia, I get complemented for my shoes at least 10 times a day.
