NicelyNice.. tha is so good. I think it nails the assignment -- there's brand clash, culture clash, formality clash, yet it all hangs together.

Regis fit also so good -- and clashes/coheres despite all same brand.

Tried one more today for El Tegre.

This nails it.

I wasn't sure of the concept of SWD power clashing when I came up with it, but figured I would know it when I saw it. And indeed, here it is.

I think the key here is mixing unexpected clothes/brands without coming off as a fashion victim, and I think I'm giving off that vibe. Parker wins with both fits IMO especially that last one.

Why does SWD put so much emphasis on brands? In this thread, I've seen mention of "brand clashing" (or something along those lines). Are there certain brands that aren't worn together, or is it that the styles those brands embody generally don't work well together (and if so, why not just refer to the style? Is it that the style is so individualized to the brand?). I've also noticed in WAYWT thread, y'all consistently post the brands of the stuff you guys wear (after someone mentioned the fabrics used, another poster stated that fabrics without the brands were useless...though I suspect that he was being tongue in cheek). My guess is that it has something to do with the massive variety of styles get posted on this side of the forum (while CM basically only has 2 families)

"Brands" are to SWD as "makers/tailors" are to CM. They both produce clothing, usually with a "design point of view" or "house style". Certain brands/makers just naturally pair well together.  Huntsman suit + Alden longwings? : foo

The term "brand synergy" is sometimes thrown around as a negative in SWD -- maybe because there's a perception that pre-approved brand combinations are too easy -- but that's not such a bad place to start imo. And there are guys who stick with just one brand who always look good. It might be like a CM guy wearing all American style or only Italian makers. Mentioning brands next to a photo can help show the intention of the outfit… or simply just let people know to find such and such cool item.

That said, in Italy (oh those crazy Italians) Aldens are paired with everything.  So are Trickers.  And this is not just endorsed at just very #menswear stores like Whatever Tie your Tie is called these days, and Fransboone, both of which always seems to have a selection of Trickers, but a super old school tailor like Liverano&Liverano has an entire wall of Aldens, which he wears with all his suits.
