I'm having a really difficult time understanding how my opinion that Lucy Liu is attractive somehow precludes my ability to appreciate beauty in other asian women, whether they be more or less attractive. Ok please show a picture where Lucy Liu is attractive. I have yet to see one! And ask 10 Asian guys if Lucy Liu is attractive - the overwhelming majority will say that she isn't attractive. But ask 10 white guys and most will probably say that she is attractive. Why? Because she's exotic -- different. It certainly can't be her facial features. So if someone finds Lucy Liu is attractive, that ruins their credibility when it comes to being able to discern beauty in Asian women, so if an Asiaphile finds Lucy Liu attractive, they would most likely find ALL Asian women attractive (thereby earning the title "Asiaphile").

I never said that you didn't think Ziyi Zhang was attractive -- my point was that Lucy Liu is so unattractive that she wouldn't be cast as an actress in a Korean soap opera (unless as the ugly older spinster sister), whereas Ziyi Zhang and Gong Li (true Asian beauties) were chosen to be in an Asian-themed movie.

It's like this -- if you go into a Chinese restaurant and see a bunch of Chinese people eating there, and very few white people, the food will be good, right? Because Chinese people know Chinese food. But if you go into a Chinese restaurant and see a bunch of white people, with very few Chinese people, the food won't be so good... because most white people don't know good Chinese food. So who do you think is a better judge of Asian beauty -- Asian people or white people? And if Lucy Liu is so attractive, why wasn't she in Memoirs of a Geisha? Other Chinese actresses were... oh, maybe it's because she isn't a true beauty, as Ziyi Zhang and Gong Li are? Hmmmm....

I think this is where your logic breaks down, that if one thinks Lucy Liu is attractive one must find all Asian women attractive. This is CLEARLY not the case for the majority that in this thread or others professed to considering her good-looking (for the record, I don't find her exceptionally pretty but I would rate her firmly above average). The Lucy Liu example is akin to suggesting that if someone likes ONE crappy band, their taste in music is therefore invalid. A tad extreme, don't you think? And at the risk of negating my own analogy, I think applying a connoisseur mentality to physical beauty is a little contrived in the first place. In any event, I think all you've proved is that Asian men have different taste in women than the average white guy, which shouldn't surprise anyone. They grow up with different looking mothers, different media images, and different celebrities to idolize. You apparently have adopted these standards of beauty as your own. Why you would essentially talk down to those who don't share them makes you come off as at the least, a little superior. Obviously elitism is in no short supply around here, but it's your application of it to racial concepts of beauty that's bound to offend some people. I'm curious, do you think the majority of Asian (native) men are incapable of distinguishing true beauty among Caucasians, or Hispanic women?

Sorry -- I was just extrapolating... someone found Lucy Liu attractive, Gong Li attractive, Ziyi Zhang attractive... so I was just wondering if there would be any Asian women they wouldn't find attractive? I was looking for some parameters...
I agree with you that just because someone likes one crappy band that shouldn't mean that they're unable to judge good music...
Also, perhaps connoisseur was the wrong word...
And I'm sorry -- I didn't mean to talk down to anyone... I probably shouldn't throw the term "Asiaphile" around so loosely either as it's wrought with negative connotations... and I certainly didn't mean to offend anyone, and if I did I'm truly sorry.

As to your question, I do think that the majority of Asian men in Asia are not as discriminating when it comes to Caucasian women (or Hispanic women) -- just like the majority of Caucasian (and Hispanic men) are not as discriminating when it comes to Asian women. There's an expression in Korea that men use in reference to having sex with Russian and other Eastern European prostitutes who work in the seedy sex establishments throughout Korea: "Riding the White Horse". These Korean men who go out, after a night of drinking soju, and "Ride the White Horse" aren't all that discriminating when it comes to the beauty of the horse they choose... they too might very well find a Caucasian woman to be "hot" that Caucasian men would find "not hot".

So the bottom line is that beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Asian men have different taste in women than Caucasian men.

I do not find Lucy Liu very attractive as I do not like her sharper features, however, she can look very good in certain situations. In this example she looks way better than your horrible pic of Ziyi Zhang.

There are unatractive photos of both women, but any heterosexual male has issues is he does not think Lucy looks better in this pic imo.

Personally I never found any of Lucy Liu, Zhang Ziyi, or Sandra Oh to be attractive. Maybe I'm just not into Chinese girls.

I definitely find the Ziyi pic 100 times prettier than the big-mouth Lucy Liu pic...

Hey does anybody know how to do a poll on here? Can someone set up a poll thread with different girls pics and we can all vote? You could include Lucy Liu and Zhang Ziyi and Gong Li and Korean Actresses and Miss Japan and.... etc.

Sandra Oh if that's who I'm thinking about isn't attractive imo.

And Lucy Liu isn't only attractive, but I just love the way her personality comes across on-screen.

I would agree, you have issues and not just for your superiority complex about the beauty of Asian women. That pic of Ziyi does not do her justice as she looks rather ugly. The smile and hair are almost hideous. Her orange t-shirt and not-so white teeth don't help either.

No no no.... she's perfect!!! She's a true beauty! Compare her nose to Lucy Liu's... compare her eyes... compare everything! The Lucy Liu picture is a 7 (rather high for her, but her head is turned to the side a bit so that helped her out), but the orange t-shirt Ziyi pic is a perfect 10.
