I find myself in the nicelynice camp this winter, wanting uggs and birkenstocks. A lot of this stuff is great; not shameful at all.

This black watch suit from J. Crew.

I actually got a good deal on a couple of J. Crew suits recently and found that, against my better judgement, I really like them. This model's roughly $1K, which I really don't think it's worth, so I doubt that I'll get one. But that doesn't stop me from wanting to.

I can't vouch for the $800-900 figure, but I'm sure it's less than $2K-3K. If I could somehow travel back in time, I wouldn't buy the really expensive OTR suits that I now have. And the same is true for other things (shirts, pants, etc.). Unless you're looking at an entry-level line, like RL Polo, you might as well have stuff tailored. That's also something that I wish that I'd known 20 years ago.

I also thought this until I picked up a couple of them on sale for $250 or so each. They're clearly not the quality of the more expensive stuff, but they're also easily worth $250. So I'll keep the Kiton and Brioni for those occasions at work where I need to intimidate people, and wear the J. Crew suits on the more casual occasions. Particularly if there's drinking involved. And I'm thinking that J. Crew suits might be a good way to get my sons (currently in college) to actually try wearing a suit. I like how women openly drool over you when you wear a suit and I suspect that they'd also enjoy it.

Just found and read through this, and I've gotta agree that most of this is actually really good. I'm thinking especially about the Lanvin joggers, Rafdidas, Rickdidas, the Kilim loafers, Birks of course, Balmain Bikers (green only!!!) etc.

I can see why people might feel shameful about liking those on SF, but outside of this small universe and in the greater universe of Cool **** they're great.

Trying to think of what has been on my radar..

I want this but I feel like it will make me look like a dumb hipster

Edit:

I also really wanted this KYE...thing when OC had it. Tried it on with a white hanes tee, cropped black junya trousers in a tech fabric, and visvim fbt. so dope.

waited for sale and by then it was gone. big regret.
