I love steak.... To me, the best of the best is Peter Lugers in Brooklyn, New York. Does anyone agree that this place is truly a great experience for steak lovers ?

Do they serve martinis at lunch?

Martinis at lunch - you bet they do. Nothing better than heading over to Brooklyn after a monrning in the city, have a few martinis, order the sliced tomatoes with onion, and then a huge porterhouse. If you have a chance to make it over, do not forget to drown your tomatoes, bread, and/or beef with the famous Peter Luger Sauce. This isn't Heinz 57.... this is the real deal. Good stuff.... real good.

Nice Memorial Day Gentlemen.

I have to say, these days (today as opposed to 10 years ago) NYC is filled with wonderful steakhouses and there isn't the same need to go to Luger's take a cab, pay cash, etc.

That said, Luger's is still the bomb.

I love BLT Steak, Prime & Burger... but even the Capital Grill is great for a strip.

^^^ Agree with all that. If you want the Luger porterhouse and same "rustic" customer service (ahem...) experience - you can go to Wolfgang. They take credit cards and are in the city. If you want a better atmosphere than Luger or Wolfgang and a more decent service experience, then I would personally recommend Strip House

My first steak awakening was at Luger's over 35 years ago.....medium rare charred porterhouse for 2! Among some of my friends, the ultimate status symbol is a Lugers' charge card. There is a Luger's on Long Island, but why wander from the historic Williamsburg location where the atmosphere is an unintended condiment.

Thinking of older establishments like Luger's reminds me of defunct places like Gage & Tollner also in Brooklyn and the Berghoff in Chicago.

I'm reminded of Romanoff's on Wilshire.

I have never been to Luger's. But I would like to throw in a pitch for Bern's in Tampa, FL. Not the best steak I've ever had, but top to bottom it is one of my favorite restaurants in the country.
