HOW MANY PIECES OF CLOTHING DO YOU OWN? - Page 2

Great topic!

Let's see, I generally have a uniform for each season. Summer consists of polo shirt or lightweight washed oxford style shirts with slimmer Bermuda style shorts. Fall is usually a lightweight cotton sweater with jeans. Lambswool or merino wool sweaters with jeans or corduroys for winter. Layer in the occasional oxford style shirt in a normal weight cotton. Spring is sort of a toss up, I wear whatever the bi-polar Maryland weather allows that day. Light sweater, washed button down shirt, jeans or omitting the first item if it's warm enough. Casual New Balance shoes usually fit the bill in all seasons.

So all in all I probably own about 50 pieces and I back fill items as they wear out. I also pick up items for special occasions a few times a year as most do and shop enticing sales here and there, but for the most part I buy the best quality I can afford and wear my clothes out before replacing them.

Polo shirts and lightweight shirts are my biggest quantity pieces. Summertime and sweat causes those to wear out pretty fast. Sweaters and jeans last me years. I also own one winter jacket and one spring jacket for rainy days and that's it.

Sounds like a pretty good year round balance to me!smile.gif

Then I'm guessing you have more than 33 pieces!!!smile.gif

Now I only have 31 pieces of clothing..

My oldest AM shirt disintegrated

An old Sean O'Flynn shirt wore out

I think it's time to go shopping!!!smile.gif

I'm temporarily down to only 30 pieces of clothing:-(

I wore out a couple of shirts but I've ordered a black shearling jacket for the fall.

Hoping the shopping trip on my imminent birthday will boost the numbers, plus I've got lots more on my wishlist...smile.gifsmile.gifsmile.gif

I won't count, but I will give you an idea. If I just counted my trousers that I only wear on the golf course I have 52 pairs. Not an exaggeration. I also own at least 10 pairs of golf shoes mostly wingtips(like cuban habanos). And that's just golf...but hey I am a nut and like to look good on and off the course.

One of these days I will take a photo of my favorite pair of golf shoes...they are made from two animals...a zebra hide with a black alligator toe cap. There is something wrong with me.

I am impressed with the minimalist approach though, I am afraid I can't walk down that path.
I wear a suit every day to work so I own 11 suits (not including my tuxedo) after I gave my brother 4 suits that I don't wear anymore. I am certainly not done with adding suits and suspect I will end up with around 15-18 when I am done. I also have 20+ dress shirts but must admit that I wear 5-6 of them 80% of the time. For dress shoes for work I have 5 pairs, two black, two brown and one that is a two toned brown and cream wing tip that I wear with my khaki suit.

When I am not working 99% of the time you can catch me in a pair of khaki shorts with a long sleeve button down shirt untucked with the sleeves rolled up. I live in Florida so that is kind of my day to day look when I am not at the office.

I don't really see myself buying anything but dress clothes in the near future.

I uh, plead the 5th. Not as many items as some on this forum, but, uh... shog[1].gif

Hey, I like variety. What can I say?

I used to be a hoarder because I thought having a lot of clothes was cool. What I didn't realize is that I was buying pieces for their brand name without knowing if they fit me correctly. As I have got older, I have started to add classic pieces that will be versatile with the fit being the most important thing. I am now more picky with my selections and have switched to MTM for my dress and casual shirts. It's a work in process, but I think I have it down better than many people my age (Senior in college).
