HOW MANY PIECES OF CLOTHING DO YOU OWN?

Are you a minimalist, re buying each season to replace worn out clothes, or a hoarder, with a stash of clothes in every size and colour?

I'm the former (not including accessories or footwear) and currently only have 35 pieces, although I've yet to complete my winter wardrobe..

My uniform is:

Good jeans
Double cuff shirts with 925 cufflinks
V neck navy sweaters
Leather jacket or sheepskin coat

Worn with boots

I wear my clothes to death and replace them with the best quality I can afford at that time.

I'm guessing some of you have hundreds of pieces but I'm happy to stick to a well fitting uniform.smile.gif

I think I have 35 dress shirts. Your mentality is acceptable but my mentality is and i am pretty sure groupthink of SF is to purchase things that are staples so you have a healthy rotation of items whether its shirts, shoes, trousers, etc.

Either way you are spending the money for the items whether its every month you add a few items or every few years you rehaul and redo your entire closet.

I totally agree!

I have friends with several hundred pairs of jeans in their wardrobe!

Also, some of us buy little and very expensive, others have a more throwaway attitude.

I've got a friend in Swtzerland so crazy on denim he has a museum with 13,000 pieces of denim and growing!!

Btw, 15 of my pieces are dress shirts!

I now have only 30 pieces after a clear out of worn out clothes:

4 v neck navy jumpers (2 cashmere, 2 merino)

13 dress shirts

5 jeans

8 coats/jackets

I regularly replace the less expensive pieces that wear out, and wear the expensive pieces until they fall apart.

Plus a bit of impulse shopping!

I tend to live in the same few outfits, so several things all wear out at the same time.

Although I don't have much, I spend a fortune on clothes!!

But a very reasonable one!

That is an impossibly small wardrobe and the concept of a "uniform" on a grown man other than one required by an employer nonsense.

I'm not an endorser of the uniform, but am much more of a minimalist than the average SF'er.

Here's my rotation (54 total pieces):

3 Suits

1 Blazer

8 Dress Shirts

4 Pairs of Dress Pants (not counting suit pants)

2 Pairs of Jeans

4 Polos

4 Sweaters

4 Jackets/Coats

6 Pairs of Khaki Shorts (I golf a lot in the summer)

10 Pairs of Shoes (including sport specific ones)

8 Solid Color Tshirts

It's also important for me to note that I do not work in an environment that requires suit and tie. Typical work wardrobe is jeans and a tshirt or sweater.

I'd rather not bring it up in the forum, but I'm terminally ill and don't work and never will again.

That doesn't stop me loving nice clothes, and I find that 30 pieces works for me, due to my restrictive lifestyle.

That's the last time I'm mentioning this on the forum.

I won't count, but I will give you an idea. If I just counted my trousers that I only wear on the golf course I have 52 pairs. Not an exaggeration. I also own at least 10 pairs of golf shoes mostly wingtips. And that's just golf...but hey I am a nut and like to look good on and off the course.

One of these days I will take a photo of my favorite pair of golf shoes...they are made from two animals...a zebra hide with a black alligator toe cap. There is something wrong with me.

Wow!!

Quite a collection!

I'm now up to 36 pieces, including my recent shopping and a leather jacket which I inherited from my aunt!

But my wardrobe is tiny and I couldn't fit in one more piece until I've worn some out...smile.gifsmile.gif

I can say that I am a hoarder, I don't count my clothes but let's say I have clothes that are more than 7-8 years old and look perfectly fine.

I'm now back down to 33 pieces...

I returned my late aunts jacket as it was too 1980s!

I was forced to cancel/postpone 2 custom orders for the foreseeable future as I have medical expenses to pay and they took priority over 2 summer jackets..smile.gif

That's a great solid basic wardrobe!
I counted 54 pieces - more than me, although you did include shoes, which I didn't in my 33!smile.gif
