Suggestions for buying inexpensive slacks? Or should I just go to Italy?

I am looking for men's dress slacks, ideally pleated, and *somewhat* slim in fit, that look expensive.

I visit London and NYC often but everything I see that looks nice is easily $200, with most $250+.

Does anyone have suggestions based on the above? I'm almost thinking I should plan a trip to Italy around it. Is the consensus that I would fare much better there than I can in London or NYC?

There is no such thing as "Cheap" and "expensive looking". If they are the former they will generally look it, the latter may or may not depending up whether you have paid for the trousers or a label.

So you're balking at splashing out 200 dollars for them, yet you're contemplating going to Italy to have them made? Does not compute.

I, too, want nice things but cannot pay for them.

I can drive. Can you handle a piece and keep a cool head? If so, we have some synergy here.

Italy does offer great choice (especially for ready made) but if you're just going to get trousers that might be a bit much eh?

Good food though...

There is no way this is going to happen, especially with the dollar the way it is right now.  If you can afford it, just suck it up and get expensive trousers.  Come to our trunk show and have some trousers made by Franco Ercole.  I have it on the most persnickety authority that he cuts a fine trouser.

-1- Ivar, I never said I wanted to get trousers "made." Re-read the post. Everything would be off the rack.
-2- GBR, I never said I wanted something cheap -- I said I wanted something that wasn't very expensive. Not everyone is as wealthy as you, and I don't think $200-$250 for a pair of pants is "cheap". Also, I have seen many pairs of pants for $350 that I would never wear.
-3- ivyshaw, which online stores would you recommend? I tried yoox, but they have very few options especially in pleated. Thank you.

I got great trousers in Milan 3 for €190 (that was a special offer though for the store's 40 years). You can find great buys in italy for great prices but obviously getting there is a cost (plus you're definately gonna spend some serious funds for the excellent italian food etc).

My recent trip to italy (check my thread) resulted in some great buys but overall i sent a lot of money
