Dating advice

Hey guys, Well, it's been about three months since I broke up with my girlfriend of 2 1/2 years, and I haven't dated since. I wanted to give myself some time before 'getting back on the horse', and I think I'm pretty much over the worst of it. Anyway, I feel out-of-the-loop. Where are your top places to meet women? I'm 20, so bars are out of the question. However, I do go to parties quite frequently, but it never seems right to me to try and pick up a girl at a party. I work with some smokin' girls at work, however, I think that might complicate work affairs. So, any tips for places to meet girls, or tips on how to ask them on a date? I know this sounds very remedial, but it seems I've lost touch a bit with the dating world. Hopefully Mike C can chime in a bit, since I know his work revolves around this.

Don't worry about meeting girls at bars or at clubs. You don't get a good idea what the girl is really like. Instead, try meeting them at friends place or parties. This way, it tells the rest of the girls there that you must be a good guy if you're already friends with the host. This lowers womens' shields. You said your coworkers are hot. They must have other friends, and through your coworker, you'll get introduced to her friends.

I don't know about your relegious background (or lack thereof) but going to church might be an opportunity to meet someone who shares similar beliefs. You state early on that you don't want to date the people you work with. Unless the person is your boss or your subordinate, why worry about mixing work and dating. When I was dating, I often dated people I met at work. It's a good venue to meet and learn about people.

It's strange that prior to the 70's (I think, or was it the 80's? 90's even?) that the workplace was the #1 place where people met. With all the sexual harrasment paranoia, people are afraid to show interest towards their coworkers. However, personal experience has proved dating within the workplace is not the best idea. The breakup is too messy. But if you like the person, I say go for it.

If you see a woman you are attracted to, wherever, whenever, say hi. If she responds, strike up a conversation. Then suggest that you meet again. It ain't rocket science, people. For the record, I'm not longer on the market, so I don't do this anymore.

I can't remember if I read this on the Styleforum or heard it somewhere else... Anyway, the advice was to say 'hi' to every girl you walk by. I've been doing this, and for some reason it seems like it would be a lot easier to strike up a random conversation.

I totally agree, there is not much more to it. Forget all the BS about the perfect place to meet women, if the girl is attracted to you then you could probably even pick her up at her grandmothers funeral. Just try your luck with every single one that you see and like no matter where you are, chances are you'll hit the jackpot sooner or later.
