Is the raw silk (like the grey melange raw silk) more formal than the shantung due to less slubs?

I haven't been able to wear ties as much as i used to...but this past weekend i wore the olive shantung....i felt like my torso was getting molested by all the hands on me. Dozens of compliments on the tie....i just had to politely agree that yeah this tie was "the fucking shit"

I wouldn't say "more formal", but some don't like slubby ties and Conrad's ties are pretty slubby (the Shantungs...I now happily own two). If you like the less treated silk look but veer away from slubby, then the raw silk might be better. I'd wear the raw silk with a linen suit. In a more casual office environment, I think the raw silk would be quite nice. What combinations are you worried about?

I was thinking of the olive raw silk with a flannel suit or a light grey worsted (so not as formal as navy or charcoal suit )

I'm at the airport omw back to Freedom and this comment made me spit water onto my screen

To answer the questions regarding raw silk: the general consensus is that it should be paired with a more casual outfit (ie. odd jacket + pants) but I think they can be worn to dress down suits. The raw silks (that's not shantung) are only slightly slubby and 9/10 won't notice the irregularities unless they literally grab the tie and inspect it up-close. From afar it looks like woolen rather than silk.

Thanks for the kind words fellas.  If the weather permits, I'll try and get my forest shantung some play this week.  Otherwise I'll rock next week.
