Wasn't planning on posting, since I've been posting in WAYWT since the last MC does SW&D challenge, but didn't want to miss out on the fun. My usual no-man's-land-between-MC-and-SW&D.

plus one to both. i tried hard to avoid any MC type shirts. i think this is my only shirt that is truly non-MC

NOBD, that is excellent.

NOBD, excellent as always. But I've always thought of you as clearly in MC Cas rather than in some no man's land between SWD and CM

It might be more interesting to say which fits I don't like... devil.gif

not all designer shoes are good quality but some are. I think many SW favored brands even share the same factories as MC-oriented brands. in the end, quality ≠ style. better to find something congruent with the rest of your clothes. quality is a bonus.

really like that Pingston fit. good proportions and nice details.

I think this depends on where you are in building your wardrobe. Early on, I'd say quality should be taken over congruence as much of what you own will be eventually replaced. In the later stages, then yeah, congruence > quality both because you probably have many more items (and so that one item is getting less wear) and because you've invested so much effort into building a flexible wardrobe you don't want a single item gumming up the works.

i would agree, but also echo what KJ said.

it is important to find shoes that will look good and congruent with the rest of what you wear, but once you hit a certain price point, the quality should at least not suck, imo.

Another key difference, related to the above ideas of silhouette & motion, is the idea of drama. A lot of SWD, fashion and related looks, especially the more flowy ones, are big on a sense of drama. For better or worse, CM looks frequently tend to favour discretion rather than drama. There are some of us who love a more dramatic look within a CM context, but I would suggest that we are in the minority and that many CM readers are more interested in learning about suits for work or similarly sober occasions, rather than tailored looks for fun, entertainment, or more relaxed settings.

This. The average quality of the fits this time round is a lot better than last time we did this challenge, at least in my eyes. We're evolving, gentlemen...

One thing I've noticed about this, and other, CM takes on SW+D - and I don't think I can really articulate this properly, so bear with me - is that people seem to have this idea that to do SW+D well, all you need is "flair." For a lot of people (especially the style-not-fashion folks), that's the knee-jerk to anything outside the norm, but more particularly there seems to be an idea that to succeed at whatever it is we're judging you need to put on some serious pieces of flair, or somehow show that you're "having fun." SW+D hates fun. We hate everything, actually. What I mean is that, in a lot of these pictures, there's just too much going on.

GDL doesn't count because that pic's a year old (and he's a 'tweener), Trill doesn't because same; as I see it, Pingson's doing the best here. Big weird coat, some stuff underneath it, and a pair of boots. SW+D in a nutshell.

I think SW+D does CM would be a fun thing, too.
