I am looking for a navy sport coat that is a good value for under $500.This Southwick looks nice. However, I believe the 120's fabric will give it a smooth hand, making it look more like an orphaned suit jacket rather than an odd jacket:

I have read a few different things about Gieves & Hawkes, and from what I understand, it seems their RTW consists of mostly fused items that are not of good quality. Also, the hand of the jacket does not seem to have the texture of a sport coat that would distinguish it from a suit jacket:

If the gold buttons are replaced with horn, do either of these jackets have the appropriate texture to be distinguished from a suit jacket? Are both of these items about the same as far as quality of construction and fabric goes? Are both of these jackets fused? If these choices do not pose a good value in the $500 range, please share any suggestions you may have on what to look for in a navy sport coat.

Get the southwick. It has brass buttons on it already, so there will be no mistaking that is a blazer. And I think if you're going to get a single breasted blazer, you should go trad.

I am considering replacing the gold buttons with horn. That is why I believe the Southwick 120's will look like an orphaned jacket. However, it looks as if the Gieves & Hawkes jacket also lacks the texture that distinguishes an odd jacket from a suit jacket. Also, I am not sure of the quality of construction of these items. Do either of these jackets qualify as a good value for a navy sport coat in the $500 range?

1. If you go with a lighter horn button, I don't think you'll have the orphan problem.

2. Given STP's return policy, order them both and send back the one you like least. Heck, even if neither one works, it only cost $5 to find out.

If you're going with a horn or leather button, also consider a blue glen plaid as an option. I had a teacher in college who alternated between a blue blazer with gold tone buttons and a double vented blue glen plaid sport jacket which was a unique look.
