Last movie I watched that really affected me in more ways than just entertaining for the duration of the film was Perks of Being a Wallflower. Hadn't heard about the story before, but I was mesmerized by the film.

I rewatched Inception some days ago. I'm a huge Nolan fan, I love how everything in Inception is just right and so perfect, script, acting perfomance, filming techniques (very impressive and low use of CGI) and the wonderful music of Hans Zimmer.

I didn't like The Dark Night Rises too much though.

As far as Documentaries I usually go for the War stuff, I am a huge WWII buff. I recently watched "This is what winning looks like" from Vice on youtube....very interesting take on what a messed up situation Afghanistan is and will remain

My last movies seen

-Fearless (Jet Li) Directors Cut....a different movie from the original
-Pacific Rim. I was told to go into this movie and view it with my mind essentially turned off. I enjoyed it for the most part. How the Russian crew got taken out stuck with me. Plus Ron Perlman makes the movie watchable
-Captain Phillips. Not entirely accurate, but I enjoyed it nonetheless. Not own it when its released enjoyed though
-Gravity. Great movie only fully experienced in IMAX 3D Imho
-Blood in Blood Out. Classic 90's LA Chicano/Prison movie
-HeavyWeights. Still a favorite from back in the day, one of those goofy movies you never get tired of watching

Also just watched Rome from start to finish. Now I join all the people that wish HBO would of continued this

I'm going to watch Butter again this weekend with a friend. I feel like this movie is so underrated. It's one of the few Rotten Tomatoes ratings I disagree with so vehemently.

If you haven't seen it, I think it's still on Netflix. Olivia Wilde's performance is a 9/10 on the crazy scale.

Waiting patiently for Alfonso Cuaron's Gravity to be released here in England. It's been out in America for a few weeks now, and I'm hearing nothing but great things. (97% on RT too with around 250 reviews)

The poster is gorgeous but that trailer scares me. Feels Wes Andersonian to a self-parodic degree and I generally like the guy. Like it's all become surfaces full of colors, cool sets, cool costumes, quirkiness, symmetrical framing and nothing else under the hood. I know it's a common criticism leveled at his films pretty much since the beginning but it seems particularly striking here. Granted it could just be the trailer format...

I didn't like The Dark Night Rises too much though.

That film felt so soulless and cold. It's visually impressive to some extent and the director is good at juggling but I can't help but see it as Nolan very much (too much ?) enjoying crafting nice little mechanisms --all shiny and imbricated and rational -- that offer a cracking veneer of supposed complexity to an otherwise pretty lackluster story. I mean, he's good at it no doubt, and I feel like many ppl enjoy the film more for the post-viewing disentangling/analysis/nerdery opportunity it offers than for the film itself.

I think The Prestige, while not without flaws, was much more convincing in the same vein.

My last movies seen

I wanted to like Pacific Rim but it feels like such a missed opportunity. It's my mistake though. Del Toro basically wanted to make a kid's movie/homage to Kaiju films and I guess he managed to do just that. But here you have those ******* giant machines of inhuman proportions and the guy mentions Goya's Colossus as one of his inspirations and you feel like that could give birth to some lyrical awe inspiring stuff... But no, instead what you have basically is a bigger better directed version of Transformers. Right now it feels like Del Toro is a better creative director than film director, he's really good at building worlds, characters, great attention to details etc, but...

Is that the time travel thing with Aubrey Plaza ? I know I've seen it but I can't remember a damn thing about it.

I was okay with Wes Anderson until Moonrise Kingdom, which was undeservedly well received, and his next looks like more of the same redundant, flip, precious pretension. I haven't liked Bill Murray in a movie since Zombieland but his cult status (and consequently the degree to which criticism is unwelcome) seems to increase as the quality of his performances wanes.

Inception is just wank. Some undergrad tried to rewrite the Matrix. Every ten seconds there is another idiotic, arbitrary rule, but it just moves along hoping you're not thinking critically. Mazes in dreams? Dream denizens attacking the dreamer? "Bigger guns" on demand -- except when you need them? It's some of the most insultingly vacuous and contradictory movie mythology ever (it doesn't even really deserve that label but it gets my point across). Where is the thrilling, madcap fun of dreaming? Sure as hell not in Inception, though there are a few moments of it in The Imaginarium of Dr. Parnassus.

The Prestige acquits itself much better than Inception on most levels, as Sipang said, though I think Memento is Nolan's best.

Has anybody seen Holy Motors? (I haven't, so I'm curious if it's worthwhile.)

I have it somewhere but still haven't gotten around to watch it. Pretty polarizing from what I've heard.

I unapologetically love everything Wes Anderson's done. Dry wit occupies a smaller place then ever in today's bombastic society and it's nice to have somebody that adheres so diligently to that aesthetic. It's like the opposite of Family Guy.
