Are you running correctly? Do you wear running shoes?

Hi, I've started running in the gym for just over 2 weeks running about 5 times a week. I'm pleased to see my fitness getting better, on the first day i could only ran for about 25 minutes and today i managed 50 minutes and still not THAT tired! Anyway, last night I read this following article about the correct running techniques and posture. According to the article "The foot should strike the surface with the ball of the foot, in a dorsiflexed position. And what I think is strange is that they say the heel of the foot doesn't suppose to touch the ground.

On the other hand, when I visited my local 'running' shop today. This guy who works there told me that proper running technique should be that the heel strikes the surface of the floor first followed the rest of the foot. So which is correct??

Oh something else I'd like to share with you all, I got a pair of New Balance 825 today from tkmaxx (16.99 pounds!). When running with it, and the result is amazing! Its so comfortable, and IMO it really increases my performance. So If you're like me, who has just started running. You should get a proper pair of running shoes!

I have ones that dont have a strap going across the top or bridge of the foot. I like em. I started running barefoot for the hell of it on a treadmill and got used to it. So I got those to run outside. My feet hurt when I use shoes now, so I just stick with those. I havnet been injured in anyway either if thats whhat your wondering.

Running without shoes is uncomfortable at first but you get used to it in a week or two and after a while youll like it better then you ever did with shoes . Well at least thats the way it was with me

Im just slightly concern with the lack of support and protection of the foot. Anyway its great if it floats your boat!

Feet were designed to be used without shoes. SO once you leave the shoes out of the picture, I think your feet will start working fine again and youll be fine. When you are using shoes, I guess they depend more on support fromt eh shoe it self but eventually when you stop your feet will get better at it..

Yeah, I see what you mean when you say feet were designed to be used without shoes but surely, its can't be designed to be used on rough concrete flooring!?

To the OP, I believe the running on the front of the foot is for sprinting, while striking heel first is for jogging.

There's more impact on all the joints when you strike heel first. Tis no good, but then again I was always a calf runner through my years. I've seen it done either way, but definitely be on your toes if you're trying to run fast.

Running barefoot is actually really good strengthening your feet, which doesn't happen due to the restriction in movement a la sneakers. There's shoes out there, like nike frees and some others when i was looking into it, that mimic barefoot running to an extent, but still offer protection. Your feet will be sore the first week or so of using shoes like that though.

Your feet get sore a bit when running barefoot but you get used to it after a while and then you dont really prefer sneakers anymore as they make you sore. I land using my toes. You kinda just start doing that when running barefoot..its not too comfortable landing on you heels when you have nos hoes on...

Thanks for the reply.

I run on the treadmill at 11 (km/h I think the unit is?)... so toes or hill?

I tried running on my toes a couple of times but my left feet started hurting a bit after about 20 minutes running... so I switched back to heel...
