Gustin - Official Affiliate Thread - Page 638

Not sure if this belongs to the thread. How is the quality of Gustin chinos compared to

a) epaulet

b) Taylor Stitch

c) Berg & Berg ?

is there a possibility to get a discount if I buy 10 at once ? :-|

10 of the same thing?

Could be various colors but if there are 2-4 of the same color i do not mind.

Probably not possible because Gustin doesn't run that many chinos at the same time/you'd want to wait for the ones you like - so the purchases would be spread out

I've bought many items from Gustin and I usually check the change in %funded before and after to estimate the quantity made.

Usually its ~100 items.  Sometimes they only have a small amount of rare fabric and make only 25.  Often they say in the posting that its a very limited run.

If an item is selling well and they have access to more fabric, they will modify the total number available midway through the posting or freeze the %funded (which drives me crazy).  So it can change around and there's no way to tell exactly how many.

I think it would be cool if instead of the %funded they posted remaining quantity available, starting at the planned number to be made and counting down to zero.  That would maximize my excitement and fun, which is a big factor in why I like to buy items from Gustin.

Hmm, really interesting, thanks for sharing. I've also noticed that there seems to be some fudging going on when a campaign for a specific item is coming to the end of the number of days planned but they haven't reached 100%, ie. they don't have as many backed items as they originally wanted to do the run. Seems to me that if they are close, the days remaining stays on 1 for multiple days and they artificially push the % backed up until it reaches 100%.

I guess it's no skin off our noses if they can still make it work with 80 items instead of 100, and perhaps the lack of transparency gives them a bit more flexibility. If you are one of the 80 backers you will be happy the item is still going to be made.

I'm curious what happens when there simply aren't enough backers and they decide not to go ahead with an item. I've never managed to notice it happening but it must have happened. I guess the item disappears from the website as if it had never existed?

Yeah, I guess they "found" more black steerhide! lol

Nah, it will have to wait. It's not a necessity. I have a nice Golden Bear wool and leather jacket in black. It fits perfectly (no alterations needed!).

They remove it from the site and pretend nothing ever happened.  Kind of like when you see someone play off a missed high five.  It's unspoken but they know, we know, everyone knows.

During the Olive Chromepak boot run, I received a notification that it was being cancelled.

I love my Rancourt 1967 4-hole Bluchers, and was looking forward to seeing what Gustin came up with. I guess they're not for everybody.

Haha that was the same one that came right into my mind because I'd backed it and was fairly excited to receive that unusual boot color.

But I guess we were too few and elite a bunch of olive green boot seekers.  :)  oh well

Another boot that appeared and quickly disappeared was a cap toe.  I'm 90% sure I saw it up briefly and then it was gone.  Or maybe it was my imagination.

Right, I figured that must be what they are doing. Seems like a shame they don't have the confidence in their community to be more transparent.

Other makers seem to have trouble getting much of the olive colored leather.  Maybe they ran into the same problem?

viberg did a collab with 3sixteen...service boot in olive chromepak on their 2030 last.  it has yet to make it's return through viberg but they've had coffee chromepak and possibly natural as well.

i'm pretty sure white's offers olive chromepak as one of their leather selections.

i have the vibergs and love the olive chromepak.  super oily and the pull up is more of a yellowy tan color.

Truman also ran it. Although the batch didn't turn out very olive and I believe they gave people the opportunity to opt out.

The STOCK part of the store is down, I predict a 4th of July "sale" in the works.
