Shouldn't the weekender have some kind of pad/somethign to protect the leather on the bottom from when you set it down and stuff?

Good catch

Had this thought too - IMHO it would ideally have some structure to the bottom to keep it flat(ish) and then have some feet. Based on the pic, it may have some structure built in, clearly no feet though 

 

I have mixed feelings on the should strap placement too but I'm as worried about that

I would second this on the boots, not sure which type of "footwear" OP was referring to.  I have a pretty neutral foot all-around, and they are probably the widest shoes I own.  Any wider and I might actually have issues with my feet sliding.

I received a Linjer one recently and definitely do like the brass fee on theirs, but I think the shoulder strap placement is similar, which does bother me.

does it carry oddly? feel unbalanced or unnatural? more prone to sway in front of you?

Honestly have not had occasion to use it yet. Will try and report back once I do.

Yeah I was disappointed in that too.
