Yeah I wasn't trying to dispel or support the OP's statement, but since we were talking about shrinkage thought I'd give my own experience, variance etc..

This pair is supposed to be sanforized but it did shrink quite a lot considering it was washed in a front loader, cold, delicate, short cycle, light detergent, and air dried.  I'll post the other measurements before and after wash when I get home Sunday night.

And I'll catch up on logging measurements of a few new arrivals and then post the spreadsheet.  I think the forum allows posting of a document such as a spreadsheet.

Thank you! :slayer:

I'll be pissed if I miss out on a Summer Blues drop, been waiting for a few years, but I won't blame Gustin for it.

My point was that their email reminder setup doesn't provide a ton of value if you receive the reminder 7 minutes before the public email goes out.  Since I had set a reminder, the night before would have been a nice time for a warning email so I could really "be on the ball."  Clearly I could be bothered by the fact that I had set a reminder.  Additionally, releasing like 10 pairs of one of their most popular items is somewhat frustrating since there is clearly demand.  I wonder why it's so hard to secure that type of fabric.  Could they have waited 2 weeks and had a drop with a reasonable amount of units available?  Gustin doesn't have a responsibility to make sure I get exactly what I want.  Like you said, they offer and if I back it cool, if not oh well.  Doesn't change the fact that Gustin continuously has QC issues, headaches with their model, and general annoyances.  They have plenty to fix.  I'll still support them financially because I like their stuff, but they could be doing way better, we all know that.  I blame Gustin at this moment because I'm bitter about missing out on my item and because they don't exactly do you any favors.  While your commentary was fairly off-base, thanks for giving me a different perspective.  Next time I miss out on something, I'll be more of a man and gripe less.

Never said there wasn't any issues with G.  There are a number of them that I would like to see corrected, but missing out on an offering isn't one of them.  They did the same thing with the last Grey Silk release, late last year.  No warning, just a drop.  Luckily I was there to back them then, along with Raw Umbers.  Two pretty rare offerings.  If I hadn't been, I would have been pissed like you, but, again, that's not a failure on G's part.  Timing can be incredibly frustrating, but that's just a part of the model.

On a related note, Grey Silks are a fantastic denim, but I would temper expectations for them.  I'm in the Grey Silk love camp, but there are plenty who've owned them and hated them.  They aren't for everyone.

I doubt Gustin deliberately by choice runs these extremely small batches with 10-20 pairs of a popular item known to sell out in minutes.  Some fabrics are only available in small quantities.  For example I've been waiting well over a year for some of the rare internal weft color jeans like the red silk, green, purple, etc.  They pop up occasionally in crazy small numbers and I'm not online quick enough to buy so I've missed them more than once.  Such is life.  You can't reasonably knock Gustin for there being small amounts of a rare fabric available.  They don't make the fabric themselves.  So their only choice is to buy what they can when they can and make as many as they can, or choose to pass and make zero unless they can get enough fabric to make 100.  Which in some of these cases would mean we never have any opportunity to buy them.  Is that better?

Gustin has plenty of flaws but selling small volume, limited availability, rare fabric clothing is a positive not a negative.  I'd rather have some chance to get these items than zero.  And its first come, first serve, which is fair.

I am all about grey denim.  The grey shadow is a top 5 option for me currently.  We can move on from this I'll get in on it next time in a year from now.

You are right.  I like the rare offerings.  I just wish my warning email arrived with more advance notice than 7 minutes before the main email.  I was sleeping so it did me no good.  A true warning email would have arrived the night before and prompted me to know to be vigilant for the release.  Additionally, the main email went out at like 9:45 when they are usually 9 oclock sharp.  So I would of had to wait for Gustin's internet guy to come out of his drunken stupor to upload the offering anyways.  I'm not willing to sit at my computer for 45 minutes each saturday in the hopes that maybe my item will arrive.  There's always next time guys.

I haven't actually measured that, but it's managable. They're initially really tight when freshly washed (takes some effort & have to pull stomach in to button top button), but they stretch back out & loosen up a bit with some wear (still very fitted, though).

Why not just buy from an establushed brand for colored weft denim? Plenty of RTW options out there

Seriously. If you guys really are waiting a year, paying a few dollars more shouldn't be a big deal.

Plus, Gustin usually charges a lot for their colored weft offerings, if memory serves me correctly. you might as well spend a little bit more and get something from one of the many Japanese brands out there. Even N&F offers colored weft denim, like the current sakura stretch denim with pink weft

This is in poor taste.

Forgive me, but it has been a bit hard to follow your path of logic.  However, accusing Gustin's internet guy of operating in a drunken stupor while you apparently are sleeping off a "late night" is more than a little ironic. May I pose a question, if  "a true warning email would have arrived the night before" how would that have impacted your behavior that found you sleeping at 10:00 on a Saturday morning??

I don't really understand the controversy here. Gustin sends out the emails when they send them out. Clicking "notify me" is not the same as putting down money for a preorder.

The previous time that Oxblood 2 was offered (which I REALLY wanted), the email came while I was in an MRI for 45 minutes. When I was able to check, I found it had sold out in 15 minutes. Oh well.

Then they offered it again a few weeks ago and the email came when I was in the middle of a hike with my family with limited cell service. Fortunately, we made good time to the top of the (very small) mountain, so I was able to sneak in an order while still at 93%. I had to suffer no small amount of spousal wrath for this behavior, but at least I got a pair.

It'll come back around again. Or try another brand, as suggested.

Last time… If a proper email reminder came out the day before an item was released rather than 7 minutes before the public email, I could have planned in advance to be ready.  For example, I could have set the alarm the night before.  Because that didn’t happen, I saw no need to set an alarm or change my behavior for a random release.  I am not responsible for releasing items at a set time each week, so I have no obligation to wake up then if I don’t want to.  Gustin’s public email came out at 9:43 AM when it has been 9:00 AM previously and has been stated by company employees to be 9:00AM.  People suggested I should always be ready for a release if I never want to miss out, to which I countered that I was not willing to wait at my computer, clicking refresh from 9AM till 9:43AM.  While my reason for sleeping in is irrelevant, I was out seeing a movie with family (not exactly ironic).  It doesn’t seem like you understood much the first time around so hopefully this step by step made it very simple for you.  Feel free to PM me if you need help understanding further.

There is no controversy.  I pointed out a flaw in their reminder system and provided a flawless suggestion for fixing it.  Members not fully understanding the issue have provided ample feedback. We can move on.

If you have been following Gustin for a while they release on Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday. If I were you and curious about what is coming I would just prepare yourself to check on those days around 9AM when they usually have their new pieces up. I really am having a hard time understanding where there is a flaw in the system. As someone pointed out there are limited pieces they can probably run and so first come first serve. If you are really interested in something then wake up and check it out, otherwise wait for it to come around and hope to get it the next time.
