This exactly sums up my own thoughts on the #8 CXL belt I got in the first run a year and a half back. I don't regret buying it; while it's nicer than most belts at that price and I am very pleased with the construction, it just doesn't wow me. Full disclosure: I'm comparing it to a custom Horween Dublin belt I bought two years ago for more than twice the price. "Guaranteed to make the rest of your belts jealous," as advertised on that guy's site, is accurate. I just can't afford to drop $185 shipped unless what I'm after doesn't exist in anyone's inventory.

American Fourteeners hit my mailbox a week ago. Sizing up from 32 straight to 33 slim did the trick; the rise is close enough as to be unnoticeable, but I can close the top button without significant thumb pain and the silhouette is vastly improved. Just enough nep to be interesting. 14oz is my sweet spot and I can see these becoming my favorite pair of all-around jeans. For $85 shipped I'm thrilled.

I have three Gustin belts.

Brown Heavyweight Belt: This is a great uniquely thick and wide belt and therefore stiff belt.  Its huge and impressive.  I'm sure there are other online companies making belts like thisbut I've never seen anything like it in a store.  You've got to be looking for this sort of style statement to like it.  If you are, you will be happy with the product and quality.  Otherwise you will probably say WTF!?  haha   I have no regrets about owning this belt and recommend it if you want the big natural color belt look.

Brown Horween CXL Belt:  Quality is good and solid.  This is a two layer construction, sewn together.  Counting both layers it is one of the thickest belts in my large collection so I don't understand the comment above about it being thin.  I wouldn't describe it as plasticky but somehow I don't LOVE it as much as other belts.  Maybe something about the two layers with the darker brown horween outer and light inner layer?  It doesn't feel supple and awesome but I've not been wearing it often so its not broken in yet.  I don't know.  I might grow to love it over time as it breaks in, or maybe there is something wrong with the texture.  The construction quality is very high, better than what I see in the stores.

Classic Belt - Black:  This belt is thin and feels flimsy compared to the other two and most of my other belts.  I have lots of similar black belts I like better.  I probably should have returned this one but I didn't bother and decided the buckle was sufficiently unique that I kept it.  But given the better belt options in the universe, I don't recommend this belt.

So the CXL belt I ended up replacing the Gustin one with is a single piece of leather and it's thicker than the two piece Gustin version. It's just a better looking better feeling piece of leather in my estimation. Not to mention it was $20 cheaper and was delivered to me within 2 weeks. Not trying to knock Gustin here - I just didn't like this particular product.

I prefer single piece leather - the two layer construction is honestly just to save money, and the sewing point is the first point of failure for belts.

Sounds very nice.  Yes, Gustin doesn't nail every item.  This forum isn't a fan club.  Its great and appropriate to share the positive and negative comments so long as they are polite, fair, and constructive.  Josh Gustin does read this forum even though he rarely responds to comments/complaints.  But he does jump in occasionally regarding questions about new products so we know he is reading.  Thus our feedback is likely finding its audience.

Is your solid CXL belt stretching or can you tell?  It will be interesting to hear if it does.  The Gustin two layer construction is explained in the item description as a mitigation of the highly stretchable nature of CXL leather.

I could see myself potentially loving a solid and thick #8 CXL belt.

Not at all so far. A year later, I'm still using the same hole. That said, it's not an everyday belt for me. I probably have worn it 25-30 times. But the thickness, I think, helps prevent it stretching. If you're interested in the maker, PM me.

Some nice items!  I'll be doing a closet clean out soon too.  2015 was a lot of accumulation. lol

As for belts, I gave Gustin a try twice with the classic natural (re-sold) and the saddle roller belt (returned), and that is one product line that I also haven't been impressed with from Gustin - just didn't feel substantial and seemed lower quality than what I've come to expect from Gustin.

As for upcoming items, @joshgustin anymore moleskin or wool chinos for this season?

Anyone receive their sweatshirt yet? Mine is supposed to be delivered today, but I can't wait...

I never really got the value proposition on the belts. I own a few pairs of jeans and really like them, and a chore coat that doesn't get worn as much as it should, but for belts it's really easy to go direct to a maker (like Terry Dear or Narragansett Leathers or Zissou from the forum) and get something that's one of a kind and made to your measurements (like exactly to the measurement of your favorite belt).

Can you point me to the company selling 10oz Chromexcel belts for under $100? I would like to give them business.

I did. Its fucking huge. I wear a XL classic fit in the shirts and they are great: great sleeve length, great neck size, everything. The XL in the sweatshirt looks like I'm wearing a blanket. Hella disappointed. Really soft though!

Not finding much moleskin I like. I found a wool blend fabric I like for chinos but not sure it's available yet. Keep an eye out in the next week or two.

The sleeves are right on target according to the fit guide, which means they are a good bit longer than the button down shirt sleeves. But the length of my sweatshirt is a whole inch longer than the fit guide.
