+1

IMHO there is a lot of hype around cxl and horween in general. I think they offer great hides, but I'm not convinced they are truly worth the price and I do think there are other tanneries worth exploring. That said, G would need to build out / disclose the value prop of other tanneries, and they don't have a history of doing that with the cloth manufacturers they use.

@joshgustin Any chance of ever seeing a Gustin boot made from Horween Shell Cordovan?  Sorry if this has already been asked.

What are you referring to here? The boots are only CXL, and the shoes are offered in both at a significant markup to account for sourcing the Horween.

Hi Josh,

I've been wearing my Gustin Dark Oak Trucker (unlined) around central Europe for the last few weeks.  Its been great in moderate cold and rain and looks stylish with jeans.

I do have two comments after extensive use in typical conditions.

The pockets need some design modifications.

I like to put my wallet or mobile phone in an interior pocket, particularly if I'm feeling nervous about being robbed such as on a busy train.  But the Gustin trucker inside pocket is so tiny that nothing fits  I believe this pocket should be large enough to fit a a passport in your nice leather passport case which I love, a standard double fold wallet, or securely hold an IPhone 6 or 6+.  I don't think I can fit more than a money clip in the current inside pocket.

My second comment is also related to pockets.  The main outer side pockets are difficult to access.  I'm not sure of the best solution.  Maybe the opening needs to be slanted or moved forward.  Basically its uncomfortable to reach my arms far enough back to insert my hands to get something from them.  Also the angle causes it to be uncomfortable to leave my hands in the pockets, which I often like to do.

If you make a few improvements such as these, I will likely buy a second Gustin trucker in another color.  Although the dark oak is a really great color.

Thanks

I had the exact same thoughts after wearing the trucker while traveling.

I like the high armholes, hate hate hate the scoops. IMO it makes their flannels almost unwearable. Its not as bad on the ginghams, since the look is an untucked sports shirt. But flannels are meant to be worn untucked, at least as I see it. I really wish those scoops
would go.

Shoes not boots. And I don't really like the color of their sienna. Looks kinda plasticky from current pics- though.., that's only production pics as the real shoes have not been seen yet

I also agree on the size of the interior pocket. Exterior aren't as bad though.

Fully agree with the input.  I love the jacket, pockets need some modification, thanks for the post!

Boots are in production, but won't ship/deliver until end of the Nov/Dec.  Also, first run of shoes are scheduled to ship out end of the month

Until then, it's all an unknown

Thanks for the confirmation votes.

I hadn't really noticed the pocket shortcomings during my normal everyday use because I live in California so I struggle to wear even the unlined jacket for more than a few minutes at a time.  Its just so warm here!  :)

Travel in a cold place was an extreme test because I was wearing it all day, walking all over the place carrying more items, and wearing it day after day.  So those little minor things I didn't normally notice started to become more apparent.

But I loved the jacket more at the end of the trip than when I started so no doubt its a great product.  This is my first waxed canvas jacket and the material worked really well.

Someone (not me) should go back and count how many times a question has popped up here about the shoes/boots since they first dropped. Especially the ones that were before the projected delivery window.:p
