Gustin - Official Affiliate Thread - Page 69

I received my "Japan 14ers" a week ago. My first pair of raw denim, selvedge jeans. I gave them a quick soak and have been wearing them regularly. I had to struggle to button them the first day, but they've stretched out nicely. They are a snug fit through the seat and thighs. These are 33 straights, and I have an athletic build, lots of squats, deadlifts and etc...

I have backed an olive jacket and just today, an olive duffle. Looking forward to both.

Couple of questions...

I'm leaving a lot of ink on things. I sat on my bathroom counter, talking to my wife while she was getting ready and when I stood up, I left blue all over the edge of the sink. Every time I wash my hands while wearing the jeans, I wash off blue ink. Is this normal? Just the cost of having raw denim, or did I not soak them long enough?

When I do wash them (I don't plan an epic 6 months/year between washes), will I have to go through the stretching out process again? And will I see the same amount of stretching? Would cold water wash and no drying mitigate this?

I couldn't wear these without the stretching.

Thanks!

Good to know. Thanks!

Gustin,

I'm begging you as a customer wanting to see you succeed as a company.

Please, please, please work out the issues on the back collar button centering.

It's maddening to wait weeks for a shirt only to have to immediately send it back for another two week wait on top of the time just spent waiting for production.  Your shirts are not inexpensive and you do proclaim their quality on your site.

I received my charcoal oxford this week and must exchange it because of an off center button, and today my indigo chambray arrived with an off center button.  I am just too tired to exchange this one and it's only slightly off center.  You can see it when the collar is folded down over the button.  The do not match up as they should.

I just don't have it in me to arrange a fourth shirt return of seven shirts purchased.

Please take this criticism as an opportunity to improve and not as simply complaining on an internet forum.

It's just getting to be old.

What's your height/weight and size you wear in other pants usually? I'm undecided between 33 straight/34 slim at the moment and wondered what your measurements are.

Also, does anyone know if Gustin can hem or if we must take it to a tailor? If I get the 34 slim it'll be a 36 inch inseam and my inseam is about 32.

I don't have the Japan 14ers, so I can't speak to that specific denim, but plenty of jeans crock/dry bleed for a while. Indigo is a "fugitive dye" which sits on the surface of the warp threads and easily rubs off, hence the fading properties of indigo denim.

Washing your jeans may shrink them back down a little - less so if you wash them in cold water - but they'll stretch back out to where they were before you washed them relatively quickly (more so than the initial stretching period in my experience).

just backed the duffle; really looking forward to it!

Any chance of adding an internal pocket? It would be great to have space on the inside to store a few things for quick access

I think you mean me? If so, I wear 33/34 in Levi's 559s, which fit well, not loose or snug. I wear 34/36 in 501XX, which fit a bit snug. I'm 5'10'', and 180 lbs and like I said, I work out a lot so my thighs are not skinny. The thighs of my Gustin straights are not tight, but I don't think I could even wear the skinny version.

The 33s were a bit hard to button, but now they are a good, comfortable fit. Like the 501s in the waist. I would have to get the 36 inch inseam hemmed. No doubt.

Good to hear about the shrinking! Thanks!

The bleeding is not a show stopper. No biggie really.

Is there any chance you will know if the black patch will be available before the BlackxBlack campaign ends? Honestly, I'm 99.9% sure I'm going to back it either way, but if it's possible to find out in the next few days (assuming the campaign lasts that long) if the black patch will be ready for the first batch then all the better.

too bad but thanks for the quick response. I meant to also ask if the bag is lined or unlined? I am hoping for some sort of liner so as not to get wax transfer on my stuff

Good question, as someone who backed it as well I am also curious!

Gustin: any comments on the olive vs navy duffel in real life? It looks like the olive shows the waxed cotton much more than the navy blue?
Also, is the navy blue that bright IRL?

From an update email Gustin sent out regarding the progress of the jackets. (If I'm violating any styleforum or Gustin rules, please let me know.)

I'm excited the jackets are moving quickly. Here in Vegas we don't get much jacket weather, and it's running out.

"Hi-

I wanted to shoot you a quick note to update you on the production status of your new Gustin trucker jacket.

We finished cutting the final jackets on Monday, and they're now all bundled and up on the sewing floor.

We don't currently have an expected delivery date on these jackets, but should have that firmed up next week.

Here are a couple photos from the cutting process:"
