Which J Crew boot to buy?

I'm looking to pick up a pair of work/outdoors-y boots; something I don't have in my closet, and I'm loving the Chippewa for J Crew plain toes.
Even w 25% off, price is significant (for me) so I'm wondering which color (black, brown, or tan suede) you all think I will get the most mileage out of? And just to further complicate things, those Red Wing Wabasha boots look pretty hot too. Don't know if it would look like a tall boat shoe under a pant leg though. Let's throw that one in the mix too.
Expecting this pair to last me a while, so I want I make a good choice here.
Can't look at them in a store (here in Japan), so maybe you all can help me out.
What do you think?

Thanks,
Mike

Definitely brown, Chippewa plain toes are a solid choice

That's pretty much what I figured. I dig the military look of the black, but the brown gives more flexibility in pants colors.
Something about this shot from their website makes that black look great though. Maybe just because they're wet...

Agree that the black looks fantastic in the picture.  Then I look at them in the stock photos and don't know what to think.  I think they've styled them really well in the picture, but if you want versatility, I think I'd go brown.
