Arbitrary, yes. Vague, no. Except for the blue jacket, I think what was and was not allowed was pretty explicit. AAS and Stitchy were probably the only two entrants which were questionable (AAS's jacket being very close to being solid, and Stitchy's beauty hovering near navy).

And these challenges are by their very nature arbitrary. This one time, we were forced to dress like patrickBOOTH for no good reason. :nest:

Call me old-fashioned, but I seem to remember a time when a gentleman merely punched another gentleman in the nose.

a) - He's got a point there, Clags.

b) - I live in NYC, and even I find the Yankees a bit much (but I'm also from suburban Boston, so I do have a built-in prejudice against them.)

c) - There are so many things that I could say to both of these responses, most of which, I am sure, would make the straight male readers of this thread most upset, so I'll refrain from comment.

d) - I've never been to Seoul - must add it to the list of places to visit.

The "resolves to blue" shirt rule was vague...
I didnt find any rules to be vague, but i would have disallowed all solid ties. Maybe suits too. And probably gray pents.

regardless, i thought it was a great challenge.

Fair enough. Like I said, I'm not upset about it—in fact, I had a lot of fun heckling last week.

Shugz this week out heckled Canta few weeks back. It was lovely.

I think Crusty underestimates straight men's ability to handle gay talk. The last couple of things he's spoilered for the sake of our sensibilities have been pretty tame.

Edit: This may be because I had very forward thinking parents who believed in not being an asshole before not being an asshole was cool. The explained sex as something which happened between two people when they loved each other very much (making it very clear that it could be two men or two women as well as a man and a woman). Then the actual "sex talk", while mostly centered on male-female relationships, briefly touched on male-male. They asked if I wanted to know, and being like in 6th grade and having no idea what I was about to be told, I said yes.

The odd thing is that they were both fairly conservative sexually, my dad a straight up WASP prude (my mom gave "the talk"). Just socially very equitable.

What I've written and spoilered has been fairly tame, because these threads are really not the place for total gay raunch (sorry Derk, sad but true), and what I usually aim for is humor, not outrage. However, it has been my experience that straight men, or some significant subsection thereof, when confronted with frank references to the mechanics of male same-sex sex, get all nervous and twitchy. Glad that you are not among them, Clags.

Well, poop is gross. But yeah, I suspect DerekS could say things that would cause paroxysms should a gay male say them.

This is not an issue for the student of Greek and Roman history.

I was concerned about the jacket.  I think it looks grey from a distance even though it's navy and cream houndstooth.  I would have gone with a different jacket, but it was super hot on Friday.  I was quite surprised by your tie and shirt choice, Clags.  I recall you saying that blue and white patterned shirts were a no go and a solid brown tie seems more of a staple to me than a solid burgundy.  Anyway, I enjoyed this challenge.

I definitely feel brown is a staple. It's just not the staple that people recommend when someone asks "how do I start my wardrobe?" The blue and white was more to head off shirts like this:

Derk is quite capable of saying things that cause paroxysms regardless of whom else might say them to equal (or worse) effect. Part of his charm. satisfied.gif

Next week I'm thinking something simple. Double breasted challenge? The only rule is that your jacket (be it a part of a suit or not) is double breasted.
