Can't find a suit that fits- go custom?

I'm not looking for high quality. I'm short. Can't find a suit that fits without major alterations

Suit supply/BB - doesn't fit well unless I "remake the suit", according to salesman. He's working on commission so I'm pretty sure he wasn't lying

I think I'm limited to custom suits?
I'm 5'6, 150; athletic build; fit 36-38R or S, depending on the cut/brand. Most suits have been S though.

My options:
House of Bespoke- obviously not true bespoke but I don't care, since it's only $300. Any HONEST reviews.? I'm beginning to suspect some of the reviews are fake.

Indochino- I hear mixed reviews

Any other suggestions? Which one of the above is the "lesser evil"?

Order of importance
1. Attributes: NEEDS to be navy/charcoal, notch lapel, overall conservative for interviews.
2. Fit (obviously going custom would have its advantages)
3. Material- 100% wool, preferably
4. Durability - it's my first suit and I don't plan on wearing it everyday

Any suggestions? Would prefer to keep under $400

Why does the salesmen say a SS or BB needs to be remade? You aren't that petite. What are they suggesting to be changed?

Suit Supply-
36R is too long. The bottom and sleeves are too long.
36S was too short.
Both 36 are too tight around. Won't do (posted pics here before)

38S- lengthwise, good. However, it was overall (sleeves included) a bit baggy. I was told it MIGHT be possible for ~$100 for alterations but it would be risky (not look good/natural)

I figured if I'm spending 600 on SS, then 300 on a custom suit would be a much better option

Ah, I see those pics on the other thread. You appear to be stocky but not wide shouldered. I bet the 38 shoulders were too wide also. Hmm. I think Thick as Thieves caters to shorter guys.

Jediknight I understand your on a budget and Brooks brothers isn't cutting it, I own one custom suit an I love it have you tried pink? are you willing to spend more for a better quality suit?

Have you tried all three main models for BB suits (Madison, Regent, Fitzgerald)? They'll all fit a bit differently. I think Milano is a bit too slim in the lapels to qualify as conservative. Sorry if you've already tried all of the models, but figured I'd at least throw it out there just in case.

Ditto. I'd add that in my experience Brooks salespeople aren't as knowledgeable about their own stock, let alone the fit of each model on various body types, as one might hope. So even if the salesperson steered you towards one, try the others.
