Slim fit for iBanking

I'm starting an IB job and need advice on shirts and suits that will fit my particular build and be nice enough to wear to work (business formal) - all without costing an arm and a leg. I'm 5'8 / 130lb, athletic build and usually have trouble gaining weight.
imo, Zara's shirts fit perfectly but they may be too slim for this type of job as well as being not corporate enough.

On the forums I read that Hugo may work for the suits while Brooks Bros Extra Slim and C Tyrwhitt slim may work for the shirts. Any thoughts?

Did iBanking (Apple's new product?) companies just accept everyone with a pulse or is this the first destination for the new hires?

What are you asking? You want slim-fit shirts? Look at Tyrwhitt, look at BB. You pay a disproportionate amount for the little label that says "Hugo Boss," but the clothes aren't that bad if you like the look.

I'm leaning towards TM Lewin, but I've heard a mixture of good and bad things. They're certainly affordable when they're five-for-$160.

Stick to fairly plain colors -- blues, whites, blue-and-white stripes. If you're starting out, don't jump into too many french cuffs or extreme collars.

Jesus ******* Christ. What is with the finance acronyms among n00bs lately? Free advice: do not abbreviate "bulge bracket" with "BB". No person in the history of Wall Street has ever done that. Your question has been discussed to death. But because I'm a sucker I'll save you the five minutes of searching: If you're a tough fit then buy cheap-ish shirts that fit in the shoulders and neck, and then have them tailored to fit your torso.

Are you based in Timbuktu or Zanzibar? For classic conservative business dress, get suits that are FC with LP or HL or EZ cloth. Dont forget details such as NL or PL, and WCs and PStitch. For shirts, there are the usual AC from HK or AF from FR. Get a nice silk tie from FU and finish off with cufflinks from OF.

I'd like to help but unfortunately I don't work in a BBIB, so therefore I know nothing about shirts.

Ok I'll answer but as others have mentioned, this topic should have been covered before.

To your point, if Zara fits... go for it. I've seen various styles in banking from slim fits to slightly baggy. I suppose the latter is the norm.

No one is going to look at you at the junior level (I should know) so something decent will do.

As you have more discretionary income, think about getting a good tailor and perhaps other labels - BB, RLPL/BL etc. if tailoring isn't your thing.

I was having a ****** day, but this thread has cheered me up substantially. Nothing like a good laugh.

So what if I work(ed) at a firm that was bulge size but just outside of the top 5 in most categories, more like 6-10 ranking? You don't want my advice? Am I double excluded because I was in LevFin and not M&A?

Since you are probably better intentioned than your 2nd post shows, here is my advice: you need a shirt that will still feel great when it is on its 34th hour of continuous wear. And you need shoes that will look good as you stand on the curb at LaGuardia at 6am holding a box of pitchbooks waiting for an MD to show up for his flight.

If you are a snotty as your 2nd post shows...then here is different advice....why are you messing with Brooks Brothers and Tyrwhitt? Those are for the losers in research and corp fin who couldn't make it to the IB. You need to go straight to Hermes and Gucci, playa. Cause IB analysts rule the world. This is you:

BTW, 130lbs isn't "athletic", it is "thin". Welcome to SF.

My suggestion for the criteria you outlined: the Brook Brothers "Milano" suit, ordered online using their custom-build feature ("Design Your Own" option on the website).

$648 for a contemporary look, classic American enough for finance. I've been wearing Milano for a couple of years now. Once Mad Men fades from the collective consciousness, I may revisit my look; but Brooks has been working for me.

It's got nothing to do with a welcome the board--it's got everything to do with showing up, not bothering to search, and asking a question that has been answered hundreds of times, most recently last week. Then getting offended when people point you to those other answers.
