However I'm having serious doubts about the tie/shirt combo and having scanned the forums it seems I was correct in my concerns!

So basically what colour tie would you recommend to go with a white shirt and navy suit? If it helps in any way, I've got dark hair and fairly pale complexion.

Thanks for any advice and help!

Hi not Ben,

Has it got to be a white shirt? Just asking...

Lots of good combos but better for you to read this as a starter, let us know what you think.

Silver grenadine, glen plaid, or a sherpards check would look lovely, imho (assuming the groomsmen aren't also wearing navy suits).

Thanks for the quick replies!

Cleav: I'm having a look through your link now, some great inspiration from the pictures so far. It doesn't have to be a white shirt, but I'd much rather it was as I've got myself a brand new white shirt which looks pretty good on me I think. However I am open to any other colours, if you believe they would look best. I see light blue seems to be the common colour, which is perhaps something I need to explore.

  • PiCcolocV: The groomsmen aren't wearing navy suits to my knowledge, however I'll ask the groom this weekend when I see him. I think the glen plaid tie is a great shout, having a little trouble finding one here in England that isn't too expensive.

No and no for me friend, though YMMV

You should ask the question of the GNATers http://www.styleforum.net/t/375309/noodles-good-natured-advice-thread/9180#post_7271611

If you're insistent on blue suit, white shirt (blue better) then you could go this way...

Just an option (Drakes btw)

Re: the wedding question - navy suit, white shirt, silver / grey tie (either grenadine, POW, or any appropriate wedding tie style). Perfect for a wedding and one of the most elegant combinations out there. I would also definitely stick to a white shirt (just avoid the red tie). If a silver / grey tie is not an option, light blue would work decently as well.

That tie is indeed excellent looking, Cleav, however it's a bit above my price range at the moment :violin:

I'm not against a blue shirt, I will be looking out for one this weekend and there's a good chance on Monday you'll be receiving another post asking about tie combinations with the blue shirt!

I've had another look this morning:

Opinions on this one? Similar to both of your suggestions, a middle ground if you will.

^ I do not like that one at all. Pattern seems far too big and bold. I'd go with a solid before something like that.

Don't do the tie Ben nod[1].gif

As I said, consider a blue shirt though I have no angst with white

i have an event next weekend and it requires suit and tie.

I was set on the standard navy suit, white shirt, POW tie with white PS, and black oxford.

Or if I wanted to have more fun, I was also considering this;

With navy suit and white PS.

Would it work? And would a dark brown oxford work in lieu of black?

Here is an example from Eidos granted the suit is sand in beige:

^ What sort of event? A navy suit, bold blue striped shirt, tie and brown shoes can work for some events requiring a suit but it depends on the event. Personally I'd prefer a burgundy or brown tie with that shirt rather than the tie you have selected. You already are going to have a navy suit and a shirt with medium blue bold stripes. Adding a tie with a blue background just seems like a bit much. I think the blue suit / shirt / tie look is a lot more successful when one is wearing a light blue shirt.

thanks

i'll consider that as I can easily swap in a light blue shirt.

the event is being hosted at an art gallery for a pageant show

I'd rather see the striped shirt with a contrasting tie for that kind of thing. It's an art event.

Hi Gents,

I am interested in hearing views on the Hober Macclesfield #106.  Nice looking tie that should go well with navy blue suits.

A  bit too narrow uses to be in a top 8 list?

Macclesfield Silk Tie Blue, Sky Blue, Orange & White on Charcoal Gray
