We're half way there now, but I'm a bit surprised that not more people have joined in, given the quite conservative specs (but maybe that's what's wrong with it). However, after seeing your very appetizing photos of the Whiskey shell Harlech, I thought the model might attract more attention if I proposed it in whiskey shell as opposed to regular edwardian – your thoughts on this?

I also thought about discarding the EG Alderley, and go with a Skye in tan/whiskey shell, single sole, regular welt, but what really made me settle on the EG Alderley (among other things) was the design of the heel:

PS: I don't mean to hijack the thread, so feel free to post your thoughts in the thread I made.

PPS: Eagerly awaiting Brummies update on the availability of Zuglurker%5B1%5D.gif

There is a shortage of whiskey shell right now.
Personally right now I am looking for something in red brown grain

You have just convinced me why Alderley is worth paying $500.00 premium

I'm afraid of asking, but what is the up charge for cordovan for EG.

Whiskey Alderley is something that I thought about but, my wallet is seriously hurting.

And with good reason. According to my MTO menu from Skoaktiebolaget (who has very fair prices), the up charge for shell is… drumroll please… 3500 SEK, or almost 330 pounds – VAT included, but even then I find it quite insane...

seems like a good time to shift that discussion the Eg thread and keep this about C&J MTO's

Not the best of news, I'm afraid.

Apparently the tannery that produced Crockett's zug went out of business about 20 years ago and they've checked and have no stock remaining. They do have a heavy duty grained leather which has 'been waterproofed but isn't actually waterproof in itself', if that makes sense.

They did suggest trying to source some ourselves and they could work with that, otherwise we would be restricted to the heavier leathers that they already stock. I had a back-up preference for gorse calf until I found out at the weekend that it's not classed as a waterproof leather by C&J (which surprised me and made me wonder if they'd made a mistake).

If I'm in the C&J shop on Saturday I'll get some pics of the options from the swatch book.

^ A shame but I am eager to see other options and go forward with this. Thank you for all your work!

Thanks for the update Brummie! But damn, it seems we're living in an increasingly zug-/heather gorse-less world. We should start a sister project to the London Lounge Cloth Club: a Leather Club, where we commission our own leathers at a small tannery...

No problem, I'll see what I can do at the weekend. Having thumbed through the swatch books on quite a few occasions, I know that the waxy leathers are just as thick as the zug itself so would be more than fit for purpose.

It's just that zug is the 'proper' leather to have on a veldt boot, you know what I mean?

Hah, I know what you mean! The thought of sourcing our own zug (or even better: commission it) is intriguing. But I'm afraid it will take a huge effort and research, and living in Scandinavia I'm afraid I'm not of much help there...

A. A. Crack appears to stock Zug and sells them in smaller batches (at least that's what the website states). If available, maybe the "willow" color?
^ That's a good find but doesn't it say those are from Horween? If so, perhaps going through Horween would yield more variety or/and better price. In any event, I think the logistics of getting a group to all chip in for leather to ship to C&J may be too unruly. I understand the appeal of zug but think the boot will still be beautiful in another tough leather.

Did someone mention Zug? Since EG seems to be out, CJ would be a welcomed possibility.

Bespoken pa - kindly read back a page. It is not promising.
