My pictures aren't great, but they seem to capture the color (and the color gradient) decently well. Unfortunately, they're a hair big. Even more unfortunately, it's just heel slip, and it feels perfect everywhere else; the 8.5 would probably be uncomfortable. Guess I'll have to try an insole.

I love them but still think for 2.0 no storm welt on these would have been super nice and clean. I have them on my whiskey harlech and while it looks good on a boot not sure on a derby.   Plus C&J storm is not the cleanest imo.

I was expecting them to be a bit darker as Watchman said, but I'm not at all displeased. I don't plan on using much, if any, polish on my shell shoes, but I think the toe will darken a bit more with wear/brushing/conditioning (I favor Bick 4 as it seems to be the gentlest of the ones I've tried). Either way, I'm looking forward to seeing how the patina and gradient develop.

Fwiw, these are a hair darker than Allen Edmonds' walnut.

Really? Those look a heck of a lot lighter than AE walnut. Maybe a tad darker than AE natural.

I very much like the storm welt, and much prefer the lighter antique edging. It's just the white (?) welt thread that I'm not a huge fan of . . . But that's just me. Sounds like the 2.0 I'm in for should have brown thread, which will be perfect.

Can't wait for ours in a few months!

Fwiw, I have many Aldens in D width and the c&j 325/335 last is not as voluminous. Much better fit for my narrow foot than Aldens Barrie last.

Agreed on the white welt thread but that seems like a very easy fix. A little polish or just some wear and they will not be white for long.

Here are a couple shots of the standard CJ welt stitch:

This looks great.  But a little boring for me TBH.

Perhaps it is because I have so many shoes and boots in whiskey shell cordovan that I am constantly looking for something fresh and different from the norm...

That is quite the issue to have... Beautiful boots Watchman!

Agreed... I'm in the process of talking to Lauren about a C&J for BB wingtip GMTO, which has the flat welt. Thinking brown though... Of course, I could just wait for the BB Corp sale, which will make them about the same price as a GMTO via Lauren... Depends on how patient I am smile.gif

If this is the one, then it's on 240 last....

They don't look boring to me, I'll say classic and clean. Get tons of compliments on mine

Navy Shell Dundee: Discussion

If you're interested and aren't tagged, please reply to this post. If you're no longer interested, let me know :)

@wklq76a

@randomkoreandude

@devastitis

@ScarsdaleVibe

@KPDarb

@ryantaylor05

@naspratt

@tkebh979's brother?

@mdubs?

@Gabru?

Shell Color:

Strong preference for navy from most people.

I have a slight preference for whisky but very happy (ecstatic, you may say) to go with navy.

Gabru wants brown.

Anyone who hasn't mentioned their preference please register that now.

Pattern:

Dundee with exposed eyelets. Basically this, though I would prefer to go sans pull tab or with the Snowdon pull tab.

naspratt has asked if we might want to incorporate the Snowdon pattern of how the shaft attaches to the upper while keeping other elements of the Dundee.

naspratt's alternative request is to go with the Islay or Skye pattern on the shaft.

I prefer the regular pattern.

ryantaylor05 wants less broguing. So just a medallion cap toe?

Last:

335 is what the majority wants but there hasn't really been a discussion.

Gabru wants the Dundee pattern on the 341 last.

Hardware:

4 exposed eyelets + 4 speedhooks, metal hardware.

wklq76a and ryantaylor05 do not want shiny/brass hardware.

ScarsdaleVibe wants brass (shiny?) hardware.

My $0.02 here would be to go with antique brass hardware, which has a dull finish but can still make the navy pop a fair bit. Something like what's on these Vibergs.

Sole:

Strong preference for the Ridgeway sole. Dainite is second.

Honestly, I'm not so bothered about this part, I could even go for a JR sole with flush toe taps. So whatever the majority wants.

Welt:

No discussion yet. I'd say storm welt. How do you guys feel about it?

Edging:

Majority wants antique. I was in for a natural/light edges, but if we're not going for a contrast look then happy to go with antique.

wklq76a wants a darker edge -- so, antique?

Anything else? While we wait to hear from Lauren about the price, please let me know your preferences. Here's a Google Sheet to ease your pain.

Tell him this is being organised by a Tricker's fan from his own shell mountain. If Tricker's were doing shell boots right now I would be organising something with them as well...

They have size 9UK in three colors of the "Brett" model on their web site right now; I was trying to decide if that would fit me (usually take 10.5D US).

Thanks for organizing this! Information added. I'm happy with whatever hardware configuration the majority wants, and am fine with storm welt (veldtschoen, anyone?).

I don't have much experience with C&J lasts; is the 341 slightly more almond-shaped/less rounded toe box?
