Crockett & Jones MTO Central - Page 35

Are you guys adamant about the reverse welt on these boots (whether Harlech or Coniston)?  When I get these whiskey Harlechs, I will own two Harlechs and one Coniston and all have the reverse welt.  I personally would like to change it up a bit and go for a 270-flat welt.  Would that be a no-go for you guys?  I'm actually not sure if C&J would even do that.

Personally I don't like the aesthetic of either a 270 or flat welt, so with those I would be out. Dark brown cordovan boot, chukka or longwing (all 360 with storm welt) and Dainite would make me happy. Just my $0.02...

I believe it's less sleek.

I also contacted Lauren to see if a #8 pebble grain cordovan was an option (long-shot) and unfortunately it's a no. I then contacted Horween directly (with the hope of purchasing 12 hides to supply C&J) but have yet to hear back. One can but dream.

Yes, that is true.  The Harlech has a pointier toe.  The Coniston is rounder and leans from the Harlech more towards say a Grant last.  But the 325 last is very nice as well.  Just from a fit perspective, I love the 341 last.  Aesthetically, I like both equally; they're just different.

I'll try to post a side by side in the next few days.

^^ Thanks for the explanation. For my intended use, I'd rather the sleeker Harlech.

Hey hoit, no problem, I was just checking. I like both types of welts.  For some lasts, I don't like the 360-reverse welt because it makes the boot way too wide for my liking (Barrie is a case in point for me).  The Harlech and Coniston look great with the 360-reverse welt.  I was just wanting something different because of what I have already.

Tetbury chukka in brown cordovan with dainite sole? Or RL McCallum?

Is a pebble grain possible on cordovan? This I have not heard of before... :bounce2:

Pebble/scotch grain cordovan exists but is pretty rare.

shell coniston w/ medway sole? medway is a nice compromise between ridgeway and dainite, more grip that dimpled dainite (dimpled dainite often gets some complaints), but just as sleek, not as rugged as ridgeway.

i would love for a Skye 2 w/ medway.  Tried on the 335 Skye 2 and it was a great fit, had some reservation about the dimpled dainite.

I just got my Skye 2 in cordovan in a few weeks ago, so I likely wouldn't be up for Skye 2. I'd go for Gianni like that though.

How about a dark brown Cheviot on either double leather or Dainite? Thinking about a March MTO...

Lauren mentioned recently that there was going to be a change in their MTO policy. Rarer colors (i.e. whiskey when available) would require a group of up to 12 people. All others (such as dark brown) would require a full 12 individuals on the MTO.

^ somewhat less convenient but not unreasonable from their pov. so will Lauren give you the inside scoop when there is more whiskey or will it remain a mystery as to when, if ever, they'll have enough again?
