Is it too early to ask for sizing advice? UK 9 on Galway 82 and 64 last?

Probably 8.5 on Snowdon, In general you should go a half a size down from your EG size. At least that's my experience with C7J 337, 341, and 325 lasts. However I have no experience with 228 which is the last Snowdon is built on. I will be taking leap of faith and ordering my usual C&J size.

I have a Linderick boot in Shell in a size 9 US and take a size 8 UK in carmina rain last, soller last and Oscar last. Any ideas what size I would be in the 228? I imagine an 8UK like all my other shoes?

Probably 8UK, I will be taking the same size I take in rain, soller and oscar.

Chiming in as far as sizing...

- 7UK in Carmina Oscar

- 7UK in C&J 341 (Harlechs)

- 7UK in C&J 325 (Coniston)

- 7.5UK in EG 64E (Galways)

- 7.5US in Alden Barrie

The Harlechs and Conistons fit just about right with medium thickness socks.  Don't think I could go down any.  So I'm going to go with the same size, 7UK, for these Snowdons.

Online sizing is difficult as all feet are different.
fwiw these were my sizes back in the day before I got fat.

- 8.5E all C&J
- 9E EG 888 & 82
- 8.5E Carmina Rain
- 8 most Santoni
- 8.5 Alden modified & Trubalance
- 9 Alden (other lasts)
- 9.5 Corthay

-edit-
I find cordovan slightly roomier than calf, even if its the same last & fit.

I'll have to just wing it I guess - because I take the same size (UK9) in boots in EG 64, 82 AND in Carmina Oscar.

Can't risk a boot that's too small, so I have to hope UK9 for the Snowdon won't be sloppy big.

228 is wider than many CJ lasts, seems to be specifically a boot last-- while i don't think its quite as wide as 325, it is close.

As a boot last it seems to have a lot of volume-- good for a thick foot or high instep.

In my poor experience with C&J last they tend to vary quite a bit, in one case by a whole size, In my experience generally bigger than any other "UK" sizing by .5

Thanks for the input. I think I'll go with an 8uk since that is my typical size and I can always wear bigger socks with this boot.

I'm in London today so took the opportunity to confirm my sizing on the Snowdon, and it was as I expected a UK 10. The same as my 335/341 boots if that's of any use to anyone.

Then, not half an hour later I had an email confirming the details for our GMTO, and good news - they are happy to do the Galway-style heel pull icon_gu_b_slayer[1].gif

With regard to the laces they do not have anything more 'heavy duty' but assure me that the laces are very durable.

The spec is as follows:

last 228
width E
veldtschoen construction
zug leather
full bellows
speed hooks
commando sole
faux cap-toe
unlined shaft (as standard Snowdon)
regular eyelets
Galway style heel pull
dark brown stitching

The price will be £550 with an expected turnaround time of 'up to 16 weeks'.

I'm very happy with that boot, hope you agree and will join me!!

I'm doing this on the phone which is a bit of a pain so won't post much til I'm home Sunday
