Looks good to me. What do we need for a deposit?

Also What do you think about the water resistant feature of the leather?

Here's the leather sandwiched between a 50p piece and a £1 coin (1.78mm and 3.15mm respectively). The A.A.Crack site says its 2.0-2.2mm thick, which sounds about right.

To be honest I'm trusting C&J and Horween when they say it's waterproof. I have to return the swatch that Crocketts sent, but I could try something with the smaller sample if you have any ideas, although it's only about 1.5" x 3"

The leather seems to have gone down well, so I think it's time to get a price and estimated make-up time for Zug Snowdon Mark 1:

  • veldtschoen construction
  • zug leather
  • full bellows
  • speed hooks
  • commando sole
  • faux cap-toe
  • unlined shaft (as standard Snowdon)
  • regular eyelets
  • Galway style heel pull if possible
  • dark brown stitching*

* - trying to make sure I've covered everything!!

If I don't hear too many objections I fire off an email to C&J later!

Confirmed from my side

Sounds awesome. I'm still in assuming we can get two orders of 12 boots made.
Yes please, would be happy to order.

Also, as dddrees queried, I checked if there is a limit on how many pairs we can order. There is, it's 12. Any more is too disruptive to production. However, we may have enough to put in a second order, but this would need another 12 (and needs confirming with the factory). Initially I just thought we'd fill up the first 12 in the order people asked to be 'in' and then try for a second 12. But I guess another option would be to have two orders for two different specs, if that works out?!?

Thanks again - These look hard as nail - the ultimate winter boot right there.

One small detail here - CJ lace seems to be pretty crap and got eaten fairly quickly by the speed hooks (or at least that what I experienced with my Coniston)

Does anyone know if they do thick lace, like the one used by EG for the DOAK/walnut CC Galway? I think thick lace will also look more balanced with the heavy duty boots

I have one more thing to throw into the mix. Is anyone interested in trying to get the heel pull changed? So, instead of being straight it could be shaped in a similar way to the Galway, it then fits in nicely with the side stitching. Crocketts used to do this kind of heel pull on the Wicklow, so it may be possible.

Galway (Click to show)

Interested to hear your thoughts!

Once I've posted the leather we can start getting some definite names and get the order rolling....

Those Zugs look sick. I'm late to the party and it looks like you're full, but if there's any room in the group, please let me know. I'm down to clown.

I would also like some thicker laces. I have a pair of carmina boots that chewed through the laces they came with in about two weeks. That's both pairs too, so I would prefer not to have to deal with getting new laces for another boot.

It looks likely, but does need confirmation from the factory, and whilst 12 people looks as though it will be easy enough, 24 might be hopeful

I can certainly ask, but do we know there's a problem with the current laces? They looked pretty decent to me when I tried them the other week:

Perhaps @Crat would like to comment as he's had his Snowdons some time?
