CURRENT PLAN:
Harlech (341 Last)
Whiskey Cordovan
Eyelets & Speedhooks
Storm Welt
Double Leather Sole

I've been in touch with Steve Murdoch at C&J who seems to be a very affable chap. I enquired about the possibility of a brown cordovan Harlech with modifications - namely all eyelets on storm welt with commando sole. Amazingly, I was told that this was entirely possible and would take approximately 10-12 weeks to produce.

Primarily, I wanted to reach out to fellow SF members who might also be interested in such a makeup. Also, if anyone had differing ideas to a similar makeup this could be a place to make their suggestions known.

Steve has given me the contact email of his assistant Lauren who will be happy to take our details for an order. We would need to let her know our size in the C&J 341 last as there would be no returns.

Price would be £479 ($761) + shipping for non-European orders and the full £575 for those in the UK.

All in all, I'm amazed at the flexibility of C&J and their seemingly endless quest to satisfy their customers, especially during this so-called "rare shell shortage".

Feel free to add to this thread or PM me with any questions. I'm going to head to C&J NY within the next few days to try on the 341 and get a sense of its similarities with the Marlow family.

The entire balance of payment is upfront right? Second thing can we assure that we are on the same page with a shade of brown lest we not have a repeat of Carmina boot cognac/dark brown shell confusion. If you are going to try on stuff at NY store can you check on the the cordovan swatch leather book to ensure we are talking about the same shade of brown just like the one on RL Marlow shoes.

Commando sole might be a little too ragged for everyone. What about a ridgeway sole?

This is a interesting make up I will think about it.

Yes, because it would be a MTO the entire amount would need to be paid to C&J (via Lauren) upfront.

I am definitely thinking of the dark brown cordovan found across the Marlow family. I'll have a look at other cordovan colors (if they have any) in the store later this week.

What would be the price for these MTO boots without the group order? Is there a discount?

But didn't C&J already say that there is no MTO upcharge if it's a group order?

There's isn't a discount. I guess there might be the possibility of discounts if there were lots of interested people - not looking entirely that way atm.

Oh ok, so this thread is more of PSA/courtesy to other members?

It was to my thinking before this thread that C&J will do a custom order for anyone, and there is no minimum number needed like for Alden.

However, $761 seems rather low for a cordovan boot. I'd expect it to be $900+

I think I was once quoted about $675 for a MTO calf derby shoe from C&J

It was just an idea to get a few modified Harlech boots made for SF members. The Harlech sells for £575 in the UK and probably more in the USA. With the UK price and deduction of VAT it would come to £471 + shipping. This comes from the GM so I doubt it's wrong. I would be happy to provide the email chain.

At the moment the consensus is:

Harlech
Brown cordovan
All eyelets
Storm welt
Ridgeway sole

Sounds like a badass boot :)

I hope we can clear this confusion.

It sounds like we're avoiding the MTO up charge (because it's a group order), correct?

This sound great. I would have prefer speed hooks however this is not a deal breaker and I will abide by wishes of majority. I have another suggestion it would be really nice if C&J would ship finished product to their store in NY and distribute boots from there. This way we would avoid customs and duties inconvenience.

To be honest I'm new to the whole MTO thing but I believe you're correct - we avoid high individual MTO costs by partaking in the group order.

I really like this idea. I will get back to Steve / Lauren and see what they say.

I'm interested if F (wide) width is an option. Any idea if that's on the table?
