Crockett & Jones Harlech MTO - Whiskey Cordovan - UPDATE 09/25/13 - Page 62

I was reading the last page and missed ct's post which is now on this page, my bad. Ah the elusive Zug, sitting on a shelf next to #4 no doubt.

I want Zug, I want Zug. I want Zug!!!!!!!

Where does Zug come from?

How does one breed and feed a little zuglet anyway?:puzzled:

Looks good, and the 'Martins grain' refers to the original tannery that used to make the wretched stuff.

The oxblood would be more traditional but I'd like to see the willow in a more natural setting. And I agree, might be cheaper to deal with Horween directly?

I think both the oxblood and the willow would look great. And probably pretty easy to obtain it from them.

edit: i think i prefer oxblood.

Maybe A.A. Crack could send us some better photos of them both?

Not a bad idea. On the other hand I sent an inquiry to Horween about Zug leather. I will let you guys know if I hear back from them.

Looks like I have to do some research on this Zug leather. I have been focused on and blinded by shell cordovan thus far in my shoe journey.

Good shout.

I was going to suggest holding off making any more enquiries till we have half a dozen expressions of strong interest.

C&J will need to quote on the cost of making the boots with our leather; they will need to tell us how much leather is needed; Horween can then quote for the leather and the cost of transporting it to England.

I love the idea of this, however I have a feeling it will end up being like trying to push water uphill with a rake unless there is very strong interest in this...

Thank you sir.

In the meantime, I shall do some research on the proper breeding and feeding of the Zuglet.   However I have a feeling we may have more luck with the Horween approach.

I dunno....I think you'll have better luck with the Zuglet, haha. I think procuring materials for a shoe manufacturer is going to be tough to pull off.

^ I agree. I have a strong interest in the MTO concept but far less interest in us adding the complication of procuring leather for, and shipping it to, C&J. Not to rain on the parade, I just don't think it will be practicable.

EDIT: I do realize there are a lot of smart determined people on here who want zug, so if the will is there, maybe I will be proven wrong. I would be quite happy to see that! But, again, I'm in favor of exploring other leather options.

+1 I still like the grain leather idea.

I do as well. I understand its not as bomb proof as zug but would still be quite appealing to me

Guys,

I am not holding much hope that Horween will even agree to this. It's more likely that Horween will refer us to their distributor. I sent out the message to have a piece of mind that we have explored all possible options before shooting this idea down.

If it does not work I am interested in other options.
