That does negate the questions of flipping the numbers on the bottom half of the date disc or having them ferris wheel style or all facing in or out.

ANyway - it looks cool as hell, wear it in good health and enjoy the many conversations I'm sure it will start.

Yes very very cool! I look forward to seeing many, many more pictures! I would love to hear your opinions on the finishing off the movement as well.

Sez mimo:

I guess you love Panerais or you don't. I'm not sure how useful they are if, like me, you only have a couple of watches and aren't about to go on a Frilly-esque spree. But after today I can say one thing: I get it. If I had a handful of nice dressier watches and maybe something more conventionally sporty (like your Speedy!), I could see space for something this fun. They're very charismatic, if not exactly classy.

So. True.

Pannys are not for everybody perhaps, and it took me quite a while to "get it" myself.... but now I really can't see NOT having at least one in my collection (if I can call it a collection).

I actually wore this one for most of my long weekend, btw...

Three cheers for the red, white, and blue.

Actually, Puffy, nobody here likes that watch at all. The last hundred pages or so are full of sharp criticism and visceral loathing.

A Sellita movement, but still, a pretty handsome face (and display back) for a mint-condition $1195, Raymond Weil Maestro:

ETA or not, can't really grumble at that price, and I find a lot of RWs designs quite pleasing - including this one. I used to have a quartz Tango that I bought years ago, and although I passed it on a while back, I always liked the look of it.

Maybe this is heresy, but I don't see anything wrong about buying an ETA-powered watch in the hundreds of dollars if the aesthetic is appealing to you. It's the designer stuff that costs thousands but still has the same, or a barely-modifed, movement, that seems dishonest and bad value to me.

Someone mentioned the idea of a sensible casual watch. Here's the casual watch equivalent of sensible shoes:

People seem to knock Sellita because the company is Chinese owned. I think the reality is the regardless of management style they're going to be pulled into making quality ebauches by market demand as ETA continues to withdraw product. Sellita should consider making a copy of the Lemania 5100, as Sinn and Tutima have been excreting bricks adapting the 7750 to the center minute chrono format and apparently they're having trouble meeting demand. Right now the only other center minute chrono movement available (apart from the 5 and 6 figure specials is a quartz I think.

IWC and Sinn are starting to use Sellita movements. That's allowed Sinn to make this one and sell it for a little over a grand. It's a nice looking piece, no other plain pilot watches available with a countdown bezel I know of.
