Sacre bleu! You have found me out! I am presently typing this reply from a (friend's) billion dollar yacht while my supermodel wife feeds me grapes from a reclining position!

Seriously, when I am not sharing pics of watches, shoes and suits or bugging Dino944, Stitchy and you for advice, I spend my days plotting my comeback to the French presidency. My successor Hollande did a magnificent job paving the way for that. 75% top income tax rate! We lost our national treasure Depardieu to Russia. To Putin! Who wears a Patek 5039 versus my 3940! Faugh!

Nice of you to spare some time to mingle with us plebs.

Seriously, though — that's uncanny with the waches! I don't know much about his politics, but there's no doubt that Sarkozy was one of the best-dressed heads of state when he was in office, if not the best. I don't actually want world-leader types to pretend that they're ordinary Joes by wearing plastic Timexes and making awkward photo-op stops at hot-dog stands. Why the hell would I expect them to know the price of toilet paper at the supermarket, for that matter? If they're doing their own shopping, they're wasting their time.

Anyway, great watches both mechanically and aesthetically; you both wear them very well.

Well since its president day weekend... The Patek was a gift from Carla... Sarko got a breguet, the same that Chirac got as a gift from Hassan II. ;)

Hollande wears a swatch. :)

And Jorg Gray 6500 has a bronze version (just to cross the threads ...) if one wants to feel presidential.

From their taste in watches I guess Hollande and Obama don't fit in this forum.

None of the above. Keep looking.

No, they certainly don't. Obama wore some POS TAG Heuer from back in the day, too. Mind you, he also wears dad jeans.

Maybe it's not for me to venture a reply here, as a total beginner in watch knowledge, and a scruffy vintage Omega-wearing cheapskate. But:

Have you considered the possibility that they're all absolutely hideous pieces of branded plastic dogshit? It's just a thought, and an amateur one at that. But that's it. From a purely ignorant, aesthetic point of view.

Purely on the basis of reading this thread, I would dare to suggest that if you want something big, chunky and ostentatiously sporty, then some kind of basic Panerai, or IWC chrono would give you more balls for your budget. Both of these below are brand new for under $6k right now. And I'm sure there are many others.

Maybe if a gaudy Bieber-esque Omega is your thing, you could at least make it a proper watch?

(Also available in black!)

And now, after that unprecedented outburst, the experts can straighten me out. :)

P.S. I feel bad now for venting my ignorant frustrations. OK, of the three, the Chopard isn't horrible. It was the dual horrors of a digital watch and Louis Vuitton that upset me. I'll go take my medicine.

Nothing ignorant said there, and no need to apologize; that was spot-on. Agreed that the Chopard is the least ****** of the three, although it's still about 10 mm too big for that wrist.

Nice. Not many of those came on a Jubilee, although who knows if it's original and who cares anyway? I prefer the Oyster bracelet on an Explorer, but I'd be still be very happy to wear that one.

Thats a great watch...but I couldn't live with it on the "Acne strap." I'd gladly take a strap in virtually any other skin or a simple calf rather than ostrich.

There are other parts of the ostrich to consider. Ostrich leg is durable while having a scale texture similar to lizard.

It looks like it's from the right period, so it could well be original as they did sell some Explorers on Jubilé. Agreed that gilt dials are the hawtness.

Philipp Stahl's Explorer-dialed big-crown 6538 Submariner is the ultimate gilt-dial watch on the planet, at least in my opinion:

What do you gentlemen think of this watch? A 1990's Audemars Piguet GMT w/ Power Reserve and Date Indicator.

I enjoy this classic design. My only condern is with Audemars... the brand has edged outside the of the mainstream lately. However, but $11,000 I think it could be a beautiful addition and a great watch for travel.

Spot on Mimo! Although the Chopard is the least offensive to the senses there are better choices for the same money that the OP has as his budget. The LV watch is a joke...they should put their focus back on handbags, luggage, wallets etc. A digital Omega...why that when they offer plenty of good mechanical watches? There are some really good watches available for $5,500 and the OP should do some research before pulling the trigger on a watch.
