Hey Stitch, I'm not sure I've ever seen part of a number cut off in a way that I would consider artistic.  However, to answer your question, the reason for the cut out on the 5059, was that the movement had been used in the 5050, which used a more conventional case with sloping lugs and a different dial.  The 5050 had minute markers and its hour makers are in line with them, while the 5059 has a thicker and detailed minute track that pushed the hour markers inward and forced the arc of the date downward a bit.  Both are nice watches, overall I prefer the 5059's appearance (case and dial) except for the leap year cutting out part of the date...but I'd gladly take either.

good info, thank you. and yes, ill take either one as well. i really dont mind the cut though, i think it adds a touch of character. i could be mistaken, but i am pretty sure that i have seen watches where there are portions of numbers missing, and its done solely for artistic purposes, but i could be wrong.

I tried to photograph mine this morning for this thread, using a blackberry, but the pictures were unusable :(

:( indeed.

Id like to see all of them

Will do. Given your contributions to this thread, I owe you that and for that purpose a blackberry will do fine.

From some random source , re dimensions:
Here is what it looks like on someone else's wrist:
Wow...that is one MASSIVE watch! Very cool. Definitely a really interesting watch to have in your collection! Thanks for supplying us with some of its specs and a photos. I saw a small black and white photo of one years ago, but without some form of wrist shot, I really could not tell its dimensions or how it fits on the wrist. Thanks again.

As requested. The Speedmaster 125. I forgot how heavy this thing is. I am sorry I can't get a clearer picture of the dial. It is really quite nice. AT least you can get a sense of the scale and the overal look.

Wow! Thanks for some eye candy. Love the wrist shot where we can see case thickness. Even the box is very cool. You have a great watch, enjoy it.

Thanks. I finally figured out how to macro focus with this camera. I put away the 125, but here is the Heuer Autavia and the Breitling Transocean.
I did a poor job of getting the colors on the Breitling. It is a blue dial.
Thanks for more eye candy! The Autavia is definitely one of the coolest vintage Heuers. The Breitling is cool too with its very 70s design.

Since it seems to be Chronograph- a- paloozah around here, below are a few of mine.

And the Pasha 950 with cal 205 which is based on an F.Piguet 1185 movement.

A quick shot of its movement.
