However, as you noted, the whole principle of pricing an all-precious metal Rolex at those levels does seem "rather high." In the high $30s you're fighting against, say, a pre-owned Patek Grand Complications perpetual calendar in yellow gold. There are PLENTY of other options in that price range.
Which is why when the dust settled down on the Smurf, it is rather straightforward to obtain it BNIB at a 25% discount from MSRP from resellers (who in turn source it from an AD).
I suspect that discounts will be harder to obtain for the WG GMT in the beginning. Maybe Rolex will score a real win with this one if it appeals to enough collectors with relatively deeper pockets. But if I really wanted one of these I would probably wait for a couple of years to see how the dust settles.
