Any fans of Vianney Halter or De Bethune here ?
Never heard of Vianney Halter before. But I like De Bethune, but aren't there watches pretty expensive 50k + ? Or is there cheap models aswell?

The Datograph appears to trump the 5070 on every conceivable level, except perhaps that of history.
Personal taste.

Generally, I'm not a huge fan of Pateks, but I'd rather have a 5070 than a Datograph. As for the Datograph, it has a great movement and the quality is there, but I've never liked the rest of the watch. A friend of mine had a rose gold Datograph, and he lost interest in it and sold it within a year of buying it. The only Langes that I really love are the Lange 1s. I'd definitely take a Lange 1 over any of Patek's Calatravas, Annual Calendar, or lesser complications.

Once you get into perpetual calendars or chronographs, I'd opt for a Patek.

I think Vianney Halter are really creative, but too avante guard. They make a statment, but after a while I think I'd tire of them. For me watches with classic looks are more wearble and they will look great now or 20 years from now. Some of Vianney Halter's watch's are really different, but they may seem dated and weird in 20 years. But if you don't care about that, go for it.

De Bethune, nice but I've never had much interest in them.

The only issue with magnetization was my wife Cartier Tank Francaise. She worked in a hospital and her department was near the MRI machines. We briefly considered getting her something antimagnetic, or letting her wear my Oysterquartz ref 17000, which is highly antimagnetic. However once they moved her department to another part of the building, magnetization was no longer an issue. I think if you wore a more modern watch you may have fewer issues even if its not specifically anti-magnetic. Short of the MRI department issue, ...phones, computers, etc have never affected any of our watches, none of which are specifically anti-magnetic.

I work close to an MRI machine and haven't had a problem.

It may be that older watches are more vulnerable becaus of the metals used then. Perhaps newer alloys are less sensitive. It is certainly the case that I have only noticed it with this particular Omega movement. On the other hand, it has happened quite frequently with this one.

Well my vote is very biased - but the 5070 p smokes the Dato in terms of sheer beauty and design though - Lange movements are nice to look at...

But it's like comparing a Ferrari and a Lamborghini I guess

Also a Dato loses value while 5070s appreciate - that's noone faults exc ours (the consumer) but it is wht it is

And of course I had a choice - and I picked the 5070

I havent handled either the 5070 or the Datograph ... the 5070, it just doesnt seem to have much soul. I see the point B is making.
Handle both, pictures can only give you a limited impression. I've handled both, and I've always thought the Datograph which has a great movement is nice, but it is cold and soul-less. As for B's point...its simply opinion.
