Btw heard back from my sweetie at the AD. Panerai repair is gonna cost me $180 for "general service and refit". I asked her what that meant and she answered in somewhat vague terms. Oh well, she's such a cutie that all is forgiven

H, that's a very good deal. So good I'd ask about details. Sounds like any excuse to speak to Bella!

Dino944 - congrats on the car! Waiting for you to post those pics. Awesome stuff!

akatsuki - 'Grats on the BLNR!

Nuke, what was that?

Somewhat on topic.

I have several perpetual calendars. And yet I still want to get this calendar. Why is that?

Well since everyone seems to be pining for sleeper brands, let me throw this up and ask what people think of it. Not so much the brand, we've discussed Grand Seiko before, but what do people think of the look of this particular model?

^ Looks good to me.

^^^ Not overly fond of the power reserve indicator or the somewhat blocky crown guards.

There are a few GS models I would likely select over this one.

Thanks HRoi, this was first time we ever ordered one.  It was a bit like bespoke clothing, only instead of fabric swatches and cuts, it was colors, interior materials, and performance options.  It was a lot of fun.  Can't wait for all the prep work/detailing to be finished so it can come home.

Also, that Cayman is awesome! I hope to transition straight from my 'Yota to Porsche, after a good amount of saving and prudence.

Ah the plans of Diabolical Dino and Fiendish Frills are working...resistance is futile...now repeat after me, "I must own something with Genta DNA, I must own something with Genta DNA...now the tough part 5711 or 15202....or BOTH!!!!  :decisions:

Thanks glad you liked the Cayman.  Wishing you a speedy journey to driving a Porsche.   FWIW...my daily driver is a Subie...the nice cars are just for weekend fun.

As for my personal outside of TWAT news February not only brings my marriage (2 weeks away!) but also a new house.  Got word over lunch ours is as good as sold and our offer is waiting to be signed.  New watch funds will be routed directly to new decorating funds and I doubt a JLC Atmos is in the cards for a mantle piece...

JB, ...the 918 is a cool car...but for that kind of money...I'd go vintage Ferrari.  Thanks for the congrats on the Cayman....and clearly Congrats are in order on your good news with the house and pretty soon...you will have a MRS. JB!

Other than the subdial and hands, I sort of feel like I'm looking at something that is trying to be a Datejust.  Its not bad looking (after all the DJ is a nice looking watch), I just don't think this design has enough DNA of its own.  Maybe on a strap it would seem less like its trying to look like a Rolex...but that Oyster style bracelet makes me feel like its a bit wanna be Rolex.  So I'd say it needs a strap or consider another model that has a look which more strongly defines GS's own sense of style.

Thanks for the responses. Guess I'll look harder at the Snowflake again.

I like the power reserve and stuff, and of all the GSs I think that's a pretty one.  But it's all that writing on the dial that gets me down, I just can't quite find that mish mash of fonts and sizes beautiful.

There is a spring drive I like though: the original non-GS one, with a black dial and a much cleaner look I think.  That I would like to have.  And if I'm being silly, there's a limited edition spring drive tuna that looks awesome.  But you have to push it around in a wheelbarrow and I'm not sure how easy it would be to find.

i just have 1 nice watch. a 001.

Went into another AD who had the candidates - MUT moon/grande both in SS side by side. What a stroke of luck! Ended up going with the Grande because of its uncompromising design for poise and balance with no distractions. Many thanks to all of you - especially Mimo - for being such ruthless enablers.
