Hayward for the win! Great comparison...hadn't thought of that show in years.
Very nice way to celebrate a birthday! Thanks for sharing a photo with us.
Recently at work a coworker asked me about my Hamilton as it caught his eye while we were at lunch. My TWAT ears raised as we started discussing watches. He has a Tissot, Citizen Eco-drive, and some other watches but expressed interest in acquiring a Hamilton once he finds one he likes. I mentioned I looked at them at a mall in Ohio then decided to purchase online after the jewelry store would not budge on MSRP. I told him buying a Hamilton at MSRP is not worth it when most places offer a discount on MSRP.
Anyway he mentioned the jewelry store in town where my fiancee bought my GMT and I said I have done business with them in terms of wedding bands and a watch but they do not carry Hamilton's. I listed the brands they carried and he asked what watch my fiancee purchased. I mentioned the watch and it sort of turned him off of talking about watches with me. It brought along some sort of stigma not being able to talk about all watches in general no matter the price. After that the conversation died and moved onto another topic.
The reason this bothered me is that most people at my office tend to own luxury cars, lake houses, boats, or collect something of value and are not afraid to talk about them. I know this guy in general collects guitars which add up to quite a bit of money but when someone mentions a $9K watch it makes them look at you differently.
I'd assume other TWATers have come across this. It bothered me a little but I just brushed it off. What do other TWATers do?
JB - it sounds like you didn't do anything to rub his nose in or anything like that to make him feel bad. I say your coworker has security issues and really isn't a fellow watch fan if he can't carry on a conversation about watches without getting his panties in a bunch every time an expensive brand gets brought up
You're ok, jbarwick. But I get your question: it's one of those things you kind of tippy toe around as the conversation develops to "gauge the WIS tolerance" of the other party.
Thanks much. Noticed a few things after I viewed this picture on my computer:
1. Farhad, welcome to the thread/SF forums and thanks for posting! I was remiss at not welcoming you earlier - sorry.
2. I'm still pretty taken aback at how large the images from a camera phone is rendered by Tapatalk. Whoa!
3. And since the image is so large, I just noticed that my date marker is off by one day: should be October 19 and not 18. Everything else is set correctly. WTF. Time to take out that pusher and find that manual heh heh. Darn perpetual calendar, how unreliable is this?!
