The Watch Appreciation Thread - Page 1525

This thread flies by quickly!  I always try to catch up late at night and sometimes I miss 3 or 4 pages!  I had a quick question after looking at the new Blue/Black GMT again, any idea if the SS/YG piece will get the split bezel or just the SS version?  Looking through used Rolex sites I cannot find older Pepsi/Coke bezels on anything other than SS

Blue dial eh? Now that has certainly piqued my interest... I am drawing a blank now!

I think Dino might suggest this.

Or he and Frilly might open the club for these.

More realistically (and I seriously think about this a lot) would be this.

However, more aspirationally, I did recently raise the subject of this.

I doubt very much it would be this.

And although it would suit him, probably not even this.

Going back to your previous post, I never liked orange but have a guilty affection for the nonsense that is this.

But I doubt that's for Stitchy, and neither, given his earlier comments about old men, is this.

OK, I just have no idea what he is getting.  But for the joy I somehow feel it would bring him, I kind of hope it's this.

(P.S. I like blue dials, and apart from "old men" second to last, have drooled over every one of these at some point in the last few months.  Because TWAT has ruined my life.)

I greatly enjoyed that post Mimo smile.gif.

You may be right about the AP RO...

I thought about the Nomos, but it sounds like this is used, and I doubt the blaugold is very prevalent on the used market... Hmmm.

I would love to see the FPJ Chronometre Bleu.

Happy to be of assistance - just a quick review of my (secret shame - she made me do it) Pinterest board for anything blue (except the old man).

If it's used, yeah, the FPJ would be serious individual bragging rights.  It's sooo beautiful!  But a used RO, maybe just a touch more attainable but still so iconic and impressive...I rather hope that's it. :)

I recall several years ago, someone on Timez0ne (Anthony?) posting audio of several different MR models. The Breguet was the winner for me. It even helped bolster my affinity for the brand even more.

Yes, but even Frills stated the kind of people wanting PP to make custom watches are shrewd negotiators. They aren't giving PP Carte Blanche with their wallets.

Blue dial... Hmmm I was thinking blue dial Reverso? Or maybe a blue dial Datejust as you often lament having sold your last DJ. Beyond those...I'm not sure what is within your sights... But I'm dying to find out!

But surely anyone would like it.  I mean, it's a rose gold Reverso with guilloche dial, blued hands, and something unusual poking through the corner that makes you go "ooh".  I mean,  look at it! (Click to show)

I love the Reverso, but I don't love their MR version. Also as for easily getting your money out of it if you tire of it...maybe but it might not be easy. A friend found out the hard way that the used market for higher end JLCs can be tough. He was selling a nearly new ltd Ed. Master series watch in platinum and more than one place told him they wouldn't even make an offer on it. They said high end preowned JLCs are tough to move and none of their clients are interested in them so they won't buy them. They said, Patek, Lange, and some Rolex, AP, and Cartiers they can move all day . That might not be everywhere, but at least in some markets a pricier JLC may not be as easy as you would think it would be to get your $ out of if one tires of it.

Rolex did do a bi-color bezel steel & gold GMT years ago (but not Coke or Pepsi), it was bronze (brown) & yellow often called "Root beer," but it was unpopular when new. Now they have some appeal to collectors. My former local AD hated them. He said they couldn't give them away. But it's been many years since they offered a bi color bezel on a GMT in steel & gold and I'm not sure they would bother to do it again. While bi-color bezels remained in production throughout the production life of the last generation steel GMTs.

Wise words, I'm sure.  I was surprised at the range in prices after a very brief search: no doubt for the reasons you suggest.

Good job nobody listens to me.  I must stop sharing half-assed ideas when bored.  :)

On the subject of Frilly's future minute repeater, Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)
of course there are many options just a little cheaper than the PP (and as a side note, I just saw one on eBay for $750k - plus $150 for shipping!!!).  I like the Breguet, there are many IWCs and of course lesser ones.  And the platinum JLC Master MR is a beaut, under $100k so within Frilly territory(!)  AP have one for half that.

if he is gonna get a JLC repeater it beter be the hybris.

one of the most beautiful backs all time and a true marvel of minute repeating mechanics. the only of its kind. one hitch, they have orders for the entire run, so he might have to do some fancy footwork to get one. also, at 2.5 mil it comes with the Gyrotourbillon and the Reverso a Tryptique! a deal if ever there was one. TWO FREE GRANDE COMPLICATIONS!!!! WHY THAT IS UNHEARD OF!!!!

there is also this marvel, the repetition minutes a rideau. smile.gif

SOON

i will also say, that i do have in the back of my mind to potentially use this as leverage towards a blue black GMT in the future. it is a ways off, but its only a matter of time before we start seeing them on the second hand market.

also, i like the root beer rolex!

Why do I love this thread so much?  The kind of exchange that just happened in the last 1-2 pages.  That's why.

That almost totally always works.  Although I should probably check with my ex-wife, she remembers this stuff better than me.

A beautiful back definitely gets my vote.  And you're right, it's clearly a bargain.  However, given Dino's post above, by 2015 you'll be able to get them free with a set of springbars. :)

Marvel.  Yes indeed.  That is truly beautiful.  And I don't even like skeletons.

Well thank you.  Merely a brief glimpse into the tortured dreams with which TWAT has begun to burden me.

So do I, even though I don't ever wear gold.  But if I did, I'd totally love to wear that.

Thanks. Amazingly, the oldest Connie is my daily wear! I do want to get the Speedmaster up and running (I have one other cal 321 Speedy, but couldn't find it; in any event it doesn't have the old-style seconds hand)

Quick hit. Roughly $10K pre-owned, 15300 Royal Oak or 16520 Daytona?

I can't think there would possibly be anything quick about the answer to that question.
