Here's a live shot of the aforementioned calendar in SS from Gav

and a new grande reverso 1931 in white gold that seems to have flown under the radar so far

I am so glad to see that there is going to be a new RDM! I have been worried that they were planning on canceling the design for ages. As for the Master Control--maybe I am biased, but I kind of like the proportions of my MC 40mm over the new 39mm. For some reason I have always found part of the charm to the MC was the fact that the bezel was almost too large for the watch. It is hard to explain without actually seeing the watch, but it definitely makes it very unique and interesting to look at. It has a very slightly imbalanced look--almost purposefully imbalanced, if that makes any sense. On the other hand, the new hands are pretty sweet :).

I am just glad that I am still going to be able to get the RDM in a handful of years!!! And thanks for that live shot, that makes it look so much better.

interesting you mention it. that was exactly my first impression from your pictures. so i took a look at them once in a while and it's settling.

understood, that i always liked it.

what's your take on the memovox?

Nice watches everyone. I wish I could afford some of high end watches but for now I have to stick with my Movado.

That Reverso looks great.

JLC is slimming things up..
a slimmer bezel and dauphine hands :D

Love both of these...do we know the model number of the one on the left (gold)? Thanks

So just for comparison, here is another [better] picture of the old Master Control. If you look at this one in reference to the new one, I notice the following things: first, the hands are different [the more I look at 'em, the more I love the new hands]; second, the bezel looks thinner; third, the numbers look larger. Maybe I am just going crazy, but it looks like a very different watch. I guess I find the combination of the larger bezel and the smaller numbers [this is unsubstantiated, but it certainly looks that way] to be part of the appeal, as I said before.

And Fritz, I personally love the Master Memovox. I think that it adds a very useful complication [at least for me], and does so in a way that keeps with JLC's illustrious history. With that said, I think that the larger bezel on it is not as much of a strength as it is on the Master Control. I think the Memovox may benefit from a slimmer bezel to make it a little less crowded looking. Also, the alarm function does add a little bit of bulk, and it looks like it may be a bit of a struggle to fit underneath a shirt cuff.

I think a 5513 is the next watch on my list

1. I agree with you Newcomer. While I certainly love slim and refined watches, the thicker bezel gives the MC much of its charm. Perhaps it is sour grapes, but I too have similar feelings towards the new Reverso Calendar. I prefer the "31" on the date disc in my MUT Moon in black, rather than the new RC in red. I do prefer how they chose to leave "Automatique" off the Reverso this time--only minor points so far.

2. I would take a Master Memovox International over any other world timer, though my question here is: Vulcain Cricket or Master Memovox? Not sure what to make of the brand yet, but they have some beautiful pieces including some sweet skeleton models

I am going to go out on a limb and say Memovox all day long :). Those new Vulcain watches look very interesting though. And Cyclon, thanks for verifying that I am not completely crazy. And I see what you mean about the new Master Calendar. It is funny how we can obsess about such little details!

And thanks Cuttingboard--alas, although I do have a Master Control, that is not my picture. I got it from a thread on Timezone. I would love to have photography skills like that!

We are dealing with items showcasing a mere few centimeters of space, where increasing/decreasing the size of a case by 1-2 mm is big news. The entire watch industry is all about details!
