About 3.8-4.5k

I really like the 112, it is pretty pure. But man I can't live without the second hand. That is why I'm considering the 111 or 183 over the 112/210. Another great value Panerai you should check out, the 000. It is a bit cheaper, but it doesn't have the sandwich dial tho. I know most purists prefer the cleaner version 000/112/210. But then again, another flaw with the 111, it doesn't hack (correct me if I'm wrong)

But I'm definitely eyeing on a base Panerai right now.

Pretty much my favorite watch right now, although my daily watch is a chrono avenger in Ti.

You can check it out here:

Not too shabby. Pricier at $40 than I was looking to spend. Might be good as a fallback.

Anyone have a cheaper source?

I am also looking for a NATO strap, I was going to order from a link that was posted on here but the seller is away.

40 USD seems a bit too much for a nylon strap IMO.

anything else?

I too opted for a second hand (177) as I wanted to be able to tell at a glance if I'd remembered to wind the watch, though I think I may have come to appreciate the base designs a bit more.

Not having the sandwich dial can be seen as much as a feature as a draw back, both dial types are nice but in different ways. I not sure if 'most purists' prefer the base (no seconds) models, but I expect they do prefer the ones without a date or other complications. You're right that these don't have hacking seconds. But then they're a bit hard to set precisely anyway as they don't have minute markers either.

Which is kinda comforting for something made for commando divers.

I didnt like the very quiet nature of the 112, so after a year of it sitting in the safe, i got the 312.

Regards.

i think that it is exactly the lack of a seconds hand, or markers, or date..... that is what i find appealing about the 112.

all my previous watches have had some kind of extra, be it a second hand sub dial, a date, a second time zone function.... i think it would be nice to try something different. a clean, simple, elegant, 2 handed watch. thats what im thinking at the moment anyways.

I haven't bought from them in quite a while but if you like the Corvus but not the price, it might be worth contacting the manufacturer direct - Phoenix Straps Ltd.
phoenixstraps@aol.com

They are likely cheaper than Corvus and accept (or used to) PayPal.
If it makes any difference, Phoenix is the supplier for the British Ministry of Defense.

They also occasionally have seconds on ebay via the seller Mickie500
