Also, another option could by the Blancpain Fifty Fathoms, one of the most [if not THE most] iconic dive watches out there:

The Blancpain is interesting, but I think I don't like the curve on the bezel (the same issue I think I have with the GO)... It kind of makes me think of a donut.

I agree with you on that one. I just think that a brand like JLC speaks for itself. It doesn't need some silly advertising campaign. Despite not being as well finished as PP, VC, and the likes, I find JLC to be one of the more "regal" watch brands, if that makes sense.

That makes sense I guess smile.gif. Seeing it in person, however, it is an absolute work of art. In my opinion, the most beautiful dive watch out there.

OK, I agree that the marketing teams get a bit carried away.  However, I can confirm the relationship JLC has with the Navy Seals is legitimate and productive for both sides.  The NSA Incursion prototype for example, was worn by Seals for 12 months and tested under all sorts of dire situations.  Neither the Seals nor JLC are pretending these models are 'combat' models.  However, you should take some comfort that the R&D behind this (and other) models has been robust.  It's worth noting JLC sponsors some of the network groups that support Seals and their families.

As for recommendations, don't forget the Rolex Sea-Dweller, yes it's over-engineered, but it'll take everything you can throw at it and the best bracelet in the industry :-)

Humble suggestions: JLC tribute to the Polaris or JLC tribute to the Deep Sea, Linde Werdelin Oktopus DLC

Not bad, but I'd prefer a non-black watch for just messing around in...

You want a dive watch or an everyday beater? It seems to me that most dive watches have a black dial with white + luminescent dial markers to increase readability in the deep ocean. The best choice for an overlapping dive watch + everyday watch would most likely be a Rolex Submariner...

Ooops - not all black (like the Seals watch). I am just looking for a dive style watch - don't really care if it is a real diver, will have another watch for that sort of thing.

Have you seen the new 2012 JLC releases?

I know we share an affinity for reversos, so heres a previously unseen Reverso Calendar in rose gold. It's not an ultra thin, but does have a complication

It's also available in SS, but no pics as yet.

It's going to be a good week icon_gu_b_slayer[1].gif

The Explorer II is nice. It's on my list of potential purchases.
