Yep. For me, its either a Reverso Ultra Thin or a no-date Submariner for my next watch.

And thanks to you gdl203 for the heads up about the crystal. Now to decide if I want patina or scratch resistance...biggrin.gif

Quick question:

I thought about wearing a watch again and was looking at a U-Boat - probably the chronograph.

Is it too much (i.e. trying too hard?)

What sez SF?

How do you plan on wearing it? They're really way too big to be worn with anything tasteful IMO.

answer is Yes.... and here's an excerpt from "the Watch Snob" at Chrono Mag I found amusing.

Q: I met a guy at a party who was wearing a Patek Philippe watch. He acted all superior to me because I was wearing a U-Boat, a watch that I think is very cool, and was pretty expensive to boot. What’s the deal with that?

A: The deal with that is he is superior to you. Let me try to imagine the scene. You were wearing Diesel jeans, square-toe Kenneth Cole Shoes and a striped American Eagle button-up with a piece of cheese hanging off your lip? He was wearing gray wool pants from Zegna, shoes from John Lobb and a Ralph Lauren Purple Label V-neck with a professional salsa dancer on his arm, right? This person you are mentioning understands that luxury is about tradition and precision, not about showboating and attracting attention to yourself. Patek Philippe make some of the best watches in the world, U-Boat doesn’t come close. Get some class and put away the little boy’s watch -- you look foolish.

For me, the answer is oh-so easy smile.gif. I would take the RUT every day of the week and twice on Sundays.

Two reasons, illustrated through picture, why one should run away from U-Boat watches smile.gif

Although in general he is making a good point, the WS is showing that he is not quite as sophisticated as he pretends to be. Zegna pants and RLPL sweater? I would think his tastes would be more refined laugh.gif

Finally another ROO lover. I have the Rubberclad and Safari in my collection. I know they aren't to everyone's taste on this forum, but I do love the Offshore's. My grail is currently the RO perpetual in rose gold. Is the strap custom from AP, or aftermarket? If aftermarket, where did you get it, and how does it compare to OEM? I have my Safari on an AP Don Ramon strap, and I need to replace it soon.

Really Fritz? I am surprised. I would have pegged you for a Reverso man.

Glad to know ya mate!

This is my first ever ROO, or any AP for that matter.

The strap is custom from AP Bands, and aftermarket shop for all things AP. It is very close to the OEM strap in build quality, fitment, etc. No complaints about it at all.
The OEM Montauk Highway is a dark brownish color, so I tend the swap straps on occasion to mix things up a bit.

AP Bands can be found online here:
