Is this worth it? What are the benefits? Sorry for the newb questions.

I was just checking on their site and if I ordered now it looks like it would come in towards the end of November. Any idea of what the customs fees would be?

Yes, you can only purchase from Stowa direct thru their website (if you're in the USA). They overnight ship via FedEx (it took 1 day from Germany to my door step!), so shipping shouldn't be a problem. I'm sure FedEx will send me a customs bill pretty soon, I'll let you know how much that comes out to be...

I would recommend against getting the COSC upgraded movement and save your $$. I timed my watch and it seems to be about +6 sec/day, and from what I've read, they settle to about +4 sec/day, which is pretty good IMHO. Plus, the standard ETA movement looks damn good, without whatever visual upgrades the COSC movement might come with.

I'm liking the Marine Auto very much, especially since this is my first mechanical watch and the second hand & see thru movement motions are fascinating to look at. You won't regret it, especially if you are looking for a minimalistic and very legible design.

Looks better in this pic mate. Very nice, keep it and don't become overly paranoid about a few mm

Shipping is $40 and customs should run about $15 - 25 if they ding you. Don't bother with the COSC. The Stowa movement is plenty good. There are several used Stowas on Watchuseek and TimeZone. Save that, you've got to get it from them.

I'd like to know too.

TOTAL guess but I'd say it's a custom, maybe by MKII or something. A lot of Yao's older stuff looked very similar to that. I haven't seen the new stuff.

LoL

Anyone know how much something like that would run? It would make for a cool beater setup if cheap enough.

Yeah, I seem to recall that customs for my Stowa was about 20 bucks (I received a bill in the mail from Fed Ex a week or so after delivery).

I also would recommend skipping the COSC and use the savings toward another watch.

Any recommendations on a Gator/Croc grained leather band?

I have that watch and wear it with a navy gator band that matches the blued hands. Looks pretty good IMO. Lacquered black looks good as well. Didnt care for the OEM band.

I'm getting mine shipped without the band since they can't ship croc through customs. I've been thinking about putting a navy croc on it to alternate with the mahogany croc I already picked up.

I agree, I'm not a fan of the OEM napa leather band. May I ask where you purchased your navy gator band?

check the sales forum at watchzone. seller fredaswatchstraps has a good assortment.

The whole not being able to import exotic skins is a PIA. I was in a paris a few months back and wanted to have a few custom straps made at ABP but didn't see the store until the end of my trip and couldnt have them mailed to the states. bummer
