If the nautilus is currently out of reach then I would choose the BLNR.

I love the nautilus myself but only way I could do it would be to sell all three of my watches, which I'm not prepared to do at this time.

Well I agree the Submariner is common I've yet to have bumped into anyone wearing the SubC LV, which is my favorite of my small collection.

But I feel my Explorer l is the ultimate sport watch.

Any of your options are solid though. Looking forward to seeing your selection!

I like the explorer 1 but I think its versatility makes it less of a draw for me personally, its probably the most versatile watch in many ways but for work I'm quite happy to wear the day date. I need something less precious and flash for outside of work and would like something thats a strong sports watch. Im leaning towards the man on the moon I have to say. I would do a white dial if I did explorer 2 and a chronograph if I did the nautilus.

Now after that I'm thinking a Lange Saxonia for a more discreet dress watch.

I mean I'd rather opt for something either more sporty or more dressy looking myself. The explorer is a great watch though, would be nice to see Bond wearing one in the films but hey ho.

Fair enough.

Would like to hear your thoughts on this:

- I have a IWC 3777 - awesome watch, been wearing it everyday for a few years now.

- I have the chance to pick up either the IWC Portugese 5001 (black face) or Portuguese PC 5032 (blue face) at killer prices.

- I think the 5001 is a bit too similar to the 3777, even though it is a good looking watch - thoughts?

- does anyone have general thoughts on the 5032? I dont see a huge amount of chatter about it. I'm not sure it is worth the money even at the price I'm being quoted.

- I am separately likely to get a Mark XVI shortly at a low price, which may or may not influence above thinking.

Thanks!

I have two watches with the exact same movement. In fact a good number of people for various reasons would only choose one or the other but generally not both of these watches. However for me they both are different enough and I really appreciate both on their own merits. But I chose both the PP5711 and PP5167 because I really wanted both of these watches.

Do yourself a favor and don't choose any of these watches simply because you can get any of them for a good price. Choose a watch because you really like the watch.

I've always really liked the 5032.

I've always liked the balance of the 5001 dial.  IWC does get some flack but it was the first brand of watches I lusted after so it always holds a place in my love for watches.  The Big Pilot 5002 gets top spot though.

Yes, the correct sequence would be: 1)Find something you absolutely love. 2) Find the best price for it.

Well said.

The Portuguese perpetual is a beautiful watch and a very nice calendar system (accurate for a bazillion years and set through the crown). You can get them very cheap, so make sure your "good deal" is really a good deal. I've seen some cheap Big Pilot Perpetuals recently. Might be a good alternative.

This is what I had on yesterday

Hi David, Thanks. I really like the Batman, the blue and black is a bit more subdued than the old blue red GTMs, but still very sporty.  I already have a prior generation Sub LV (green bezel and black dial), so I have a relatively modern dive watch and this gives me the added function of a second time zone, which is a bit more useful to me than additional water resistance.  The Ex is a very nice sports watch also, but fits a bit differently, as its a lightly larger case 42 vs 40, and its lugs are slightly more tapered.  I'd suggest trying both on to determine which you really prefer.  The Nautilus is a beautiful watch, but very different a bit more a luxury sports watch - so maybe better suited for slightly dressier events and a bit less sporty than the GMT or Ex2.  Good luck with whatever you decide.

I'd definitely want the loup and other toys. I guess the papers give some comfort and interest, but if sans papers means cheaper I could live with that as I'd never sell it!

Thanks, yes, the CPCP is a very nice line of watches.  Both the standard size and XL are quite nice depending on one's preferences.  If purchasing, make sure that the price is correct if its coming without all the goodies.  The CPCP goodies list included 2 which cardboard boxes with "Cartier" in gold on the top, one housed a red leather box with gold hinges and it says Collection Privee Cartier Paris (this is larger than the standard red box and as mentioned it says CPCP), then the other cardboard box housed a wooden box containing a loup, polishing cloth, travel pouch, and there are a few slots for cufflinks and other items.

Below is a full set of what came with CPCP watches.  Sorry, took the photos a while ago, so not the best photos, but it gives an idea of what comes with it.  Many times people just put the CPCP in the basic red Box that most other Cartiers come in, but its not the original or correct box.  Cheers!

Only buy what you truly like.  If you wouldn't buy it but for it having a great price, then don't bother as your love for it will probably fade as the newness wears off.  I've never been a fan of ref 5001.  Its nice, but I don''t like its looks at all.  I know lots of SF people like it, but I find it boring and its looks just don't work for me.  I would much rather have 5032.  Not only is it a more interesting complication, but the blue is more alive than the dull black of 5001.  That being said, depending on the price you were quoted there may be other watches I'd rather have than 5032 as I'm not a big IWC fan these days (I like their older products).  Still of the IWC products available I do like 5032.  Good luck with whatever you decide.
