Ok, that sounds like too much of a good thing. I did an hour (each way) commute into Manhattan for a couple years and actually enjoyed it. Much more preferable to driving. That's about my limit for commuting though; around an hour.

Here's the type of train travel I've been itching to do ever since watching the Ken Burns documentary on the National Parks. Probably need to carve out a month or so to do it up right.

Axelman, have you ever tried on the Jumbo in person before? Other than size, what made you head for the Jumbo ahead of the other options?

I havent tried the Jumbo on in the flesh as of yet. Frankly, I am still in tire kicking mode. My "collection" is very small at the moment - I have a blue face Dornbluth 99.1 and a Sinn U1. Unlikely to go with anything dressier than the Dornbluth but that still leaves many potential options. Other ideas I have considered are:

- 1931 tribute Reverso
- 1948 tribute Reverso
- one of the JLC Deep Sea models
- vintage Rolex Pepsi GMT or 5513
- Tudor vintage snowflake (blue face)
- Vacheron Overseas Chrono
- IWC ceramic 3705 (if I could find one)

I know, these are all over the place...

1931 tribute, Pepsi GMT or 5513, IWC 3705 (or 3706 or 3713) sounds good to me.

Well, Jumbo does too :-)

I took the Amtrak from Seattle to San Francisco once. Was stuck for 24 hours in the boonies in Oregon because some other train broke down. I swore never again.

My Nomos Metro arrived today! Sharing pics ... Many thanks to the many here who pointed me in this direction when I was looking for a German watch to remember my wife's aunt and uncle by!

One does what one needs to live.

I would love to train around much of mainland Europe and the UK one day, though.

I am looking for a strap for my grandfather's old DeVille.

Do you gents think I could go for dark brown -which I prefer given that I have another watch with a black strap- or should I stick to black?

Beautiful Omega. Is it a linen dial?

For a more casual look I went with a few brown variations like this...

Dark brown would be perfection on there.

That is a very very eclectic list indeed. Not really sure how to reply lol. Have you any preferences as far as design or specs in general?

Thank you all for the replies.

I really don't know that much about the model, I need to check and don't know where.

Brown it is then. I was thinking dark brown ostrich, like this from Camille Fournet, but it might be a bit excessive.

Wishing you all a very happy, healthy and prosperous New Year!

In addition, to a smart phone and other electronic stuff to keep track of important dates, I still like a wall calendar at work.

So Mrs. Dino picked up another watch calendar for me this year.  Last year even my non-watch friends liked to see what the

watch of the day was.  Cheers!
