No Panerai hate here, they simply leave me cold. And Ive been acquainted with the brand since childhood, having learned to waterski on a Riva outfitted with Panerai instruments. I've also raced in several regattas held under their sponsorship where I've met many of their people and tried on lots of their watches. But alas, absolutely no love.

That said, I would gladly accept (and probably wear on occasion) the Panerai presentation watch given to the winners of their races. wink.gif

As for their current popularity, I will admit that this association is a little off putting.

How ever big a role someone you don't want to identify with played in bringing Panerai to its current state, I personally have no problem ignoring that and appreciating the watches for the parts I do like, like much of the design and parts of the history. YMM of course V.

I recently saw a video of how Panerais are put together in their factory, and the amount of machine intervention was really off-putting. shog[1].gif

seattlesf: congrats!

Curious if you will keep that awesome Geophysic on its original black strap?

I haven't seen one in the flesh yet.

Also, do you find it wears any bigger/smaller than its specified 38.5mm size?

It definitely wears bigger than the 38.5mm size. I plan on primarily wearing it on the alligator black strap but i might work in a NATO strap or one of those hodinkee cordovan straps.

The dial is white...

Foo, just get the Panerai and quit trying to convince people who have different tastes that they're wrong.

Stunning piece,

Panerai will always polarise people. I wouldn't wear my with a business suit. Here is my Pam 232 for the detractors
